If Christianity is the one true faith, and God wants everybody to go to Heaven by accepting it, then why did it take our species (which is about 195,000 years old) approximately 190,000 years to discover it (while in the meantime worshipping all manner of "false" gods and following scores of "fake" religions)?
During said time period God introduced himself to the Jews. Also, not everyone believes homo sapiens are that old.
Actually Humans are over 10 Million years old and worshiping Gods for most of that time, so long that the belief in God has probably been programmed in our DNA like many other natural instincts we are born with. Just like other "natural selection" or "survival of the fittest" genetic traits that have developed, millions of years of slaughtering the non-believers and other cultures has brought man to the state he's at today and the religious dominated culture we live in. Someday, you will here them talk about discovering the religious gene, just remember you read it from me first!
Notice how you frame the question please. You ask a hypothetical which has, as its premise 'If Christianity is true..'. Stick with it then. I will; You are asking 'If its true that human civilisation is about 5,000 years old..' Again, if we stick to YOUR PREMISE we have people just worshipping God for the first few thousand. There is no 'religion' but just Earth, Man, God. Noah is just worshipping God because there is just that. No 'religions'. Ok, Yes indeed it sure does seem once Shem, Ham and Japeth take humanity off into different directions we see different 'religions' and eventually different 'gods' split off. Eventually God decides to preserve his true nature and revelation through (oddly enough) a rather obscure tribe of peoples who becomes 'The Jews'. They carry this for a long time alright. About 2,000 years ago God incarnates as one of the Jews, handpicks twelve guys (mainly jews) they then blow it all wide open and the revelation of God goes off like wildfire over the planet. Give or take, depending on your calculator.. There would be more people alive and living on the planet today than have lived before unto the beginning of humanity. So you end up with most people in history (so far) being given the Gospel and most now owning their own copies even. Ok, now the next question might be what do you do with the other half of humanity (total) that did NOT get a chance to see the genuine revelation of God thru the Old and later New Testament? According to YOUR premise you would have a few concerns: To what extent was their belief system insufficient? If they were worshipping satanic beings who taught humans were sinless then thats pretty bad. But, Regardless, for those who did not have the genuine revelation they are judged 'according to the light given and responded to'. That is to say (example) A sincere man worshipping what he simply calls 'The Great Spirit' and responding to truth when he sees it is judged according to that. He is not accountable for 'rejecting Christ' in that he never knew any different, and, God knows his heart was sincere (or how sincere). It only becomes necessary to respond to the Gospel when you have heard it and then respond to its light. Im not clear on what happens to the many 'internet atheist' types or antitheists I see posting here and there. The ones who are 'sincerely seeking' a way to NOT examine the Gospels. These types 'Cant find any evidence' in the same way a Robber 'cant find a Cop'.
Could you please provide a source for these claims? Reason I'm asking: heard them many times and would like to know the historic and specific point of origin.
Hate just linking to a wordy article but Im pressed for time: http://www.christian-thinktank.com/hnohear.html That does cover most of the bases on that.
More than likely it was fear and ignorance of the unknown, which led early man down the path towards spirituality and his eventual belief in a supreme being. Hotwater
People have been worshipping gods since the 1st civilizations, but the god as people in Abrahamic religions did not reveal himself and have prophets spread his message for some time. If you believe in that anyways.
If you are going to credit Christianity as a candidate for the one true faith, then you have to accept that the world of Man is less than 10,000 years old (Book of Genesis). I am speaking along the lines of ... ...if a rapture takes place in my lifetime, then all those things in the Books of Deuteronomy, Daniel and Revelations are very quickly going to make a lot of sense. Then what we will have is the Rapture, to be followed by the End Times. My wife is a born-again believer of Pentacostal persuasion. I am neither. Therefore the Rapture will find me and many other non-believers living through the End Times (Days of Tribulation). As stated in an earlier post, I am not a follower of Christianity, but I do not see followers of the Way as worshipping a false god. To the OP: if you are searching for real answers and not simply being rhetorical [to hear yourself speak], I suggest you research things yourself and not go strictly by what others tell you (their versions of Jesus). Especially if you are going to consider Christianity as a conduit to a better life, whether on this Earth or the other side of the grave. There are a few on this forum who can gainfully guide you (test their words). I am not one of them. cheers, mate - JKHolman
For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse Romans 1:19 People before knew God through nature.
Ten thousand years we have had faith in the houses of a community. Amazing grace. I forgot that song; I wish I could sing it.:grinch:
When we've been there Ten thousand years Bright shining as the sun We've no less grace to sing God's praise Then when we first begun. I love that song. - JKHolman p.s. where are you at, 'WaterBrother?
The Bible was written in Hebrew and Greek and if you read the original through Strong's Concordance, or some such online, you'll find that most of what the church teaches is NOT what is in the Bible. It doesn't conflict with science at all, once you know what the words mean, but pretty much says what quantum mechanics does. including Einstein physics..pretty cool, actually. But most people don't read the Bible in any language and churches often preach whatever guilts people into attending and donating money. I.e., Jesus told people that THEIR faith healed them, that anyone could tell a mountain to be thrown into the sea and if they believed it (consciously and subconsciously) it would obey them..always. Nothing to do with religion, or being it being "God's will." He told US to heal the sick, raise the dead, etc., (Mark 11:23) and the verse people like to quote "seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things will be added to them"- Seek ye first=make it a priority Kingdom of God=God's authority over everything. Righteousness="total equality" All=everything, every declension added to them=taken as a right So, we are told to make it a priority to take authority over everything as God would, to be totally equal with him, and everything will be taken by us as our right. In fact, it ALWAYS happens, which is why the rich get richer and the poor stay poor, even if they win the lottery. If you want to know what you believe, look around you. Quantum mechanics says that "nothing exists that isn't imagined first." Jesus said the same. The word "creation" used in Genesis means to bring to an increasingly higher level of organization. Dust=particles. Rib=cell, or walled section. The word for "God" includes both male and female elements, as in Yaweh..the breasted one. God constantly alludes to rocks and trees as though they were intelligent, as quantum physics says all energy is connected and intelligent. Jesus said in John 14, talking to God, You are in me and I in you and they are in us and we are perfected into one. All the verses use a pronoun that includes every declension..EVERYTHING..not just humans..that believe will have what they believe.
... but it does give an amazing effect for the life of one while hopefully being at a Loved Other, in that priceless temporary space of time with nothingness before and after, and someone else in a similarly priceless effort in time, and many others. But then we may stay solipsistically denied of the common courtesy and mind the numerical measures.
