yeah i don't like too much bitterness, so i usually don't like pale ales or especially india pale ales, which seem to be very popular.

i like a lot of malt to balance it, or i like a nice wheat beer.

Mad Elf is a bit overrated, as are many of these BIG BEERS because of their high ABV. Then again, I have never cared much for the darker Belgians (too sweet). I prefer blondes and tripels myself.

sometimes i'll drink a beer that's 8 or 9% just because of that fact.

a good one from ellicotville ny is Pantius Droppus at 10%

You'd probably like Carlsberg Special Brew or Tennent's Super then :D
    7.something% and about 9% respectively.

    ... I kid, they're fucking terrible.
AT the moment, "enjoying" cheap and cheerful Carlsberg. Probably gonna open a bottle of Jacaranda Hill Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon later on, mm.

just got back from spending ~$45 at the beer store. here's some of what i got. the Rare Vos 4-pack was $9.50 ($10.46 after NYS steps in), the ginger beer was $4.50, plus my wife was with me so she picked out a 6 pack or so that's not pictured.

pretty expensive for buying beer at the store (we got 21 beers), but quite cheap if compared to drinking swill at the bar.

i'm drinking one of the saranac christmas ales - best one of that variety that i've tasted i think.

the "brown shugga" is 9.9%, nice and malty. i liked the few sips that i had from my wife's. i got one for me in the fridge.[IMG]

pressed rat, they STILL have pumpking. a guy bought an entire case while i was in the store.
also, i had to get a bottle of the hennepin since you said that was your favorite. one of the cheaper ones from ommegang anyway.

i also got a sample of Naked Dove's naughty or nice christmas ale - that was probably better than the saranac, but only for sale in growler's etc. i didn't take my bottles.

Funny I was just checking out the Shiner Cheer while at Wegmans a few minutes ago. I haven't had anything from Shiner, and I know they only just recently were introduced to the area. Their Bock seems to be popular down south, but the beer only gets fair reviews online. I haven't read anything about the Cheer yet, but I was almost going to look it up at the store on my phone.

And nothing against Saranac or Blue Point, but their beers are pretty average. If I was at a store with a decent selection, I would skip right over them. But that's just me.

Brown Shugga' is pretty nice from what I remember, but it's been years since I had it last.

the shiner is kinda just like an average, drinkable beer. but it has more flavor than miller or bud. i like it for 1.40 a bottle.

and toasted lager is actually one of my favorite beers. there's nothing too special about it, but it goes down good and tastes good. maybe i can describe it better when i'm drinking one.

saranac is pretty average yeah, but as i said, the xmas ale is actually pretty good. and it was like 1.40 a bottle too.

that's a fox, only on the rare vos (it's foreign for sly fox)

but yeah, it does kinda look like a squirrel.

Saranac makes some of my favorites...after those 2 or 3 though they are just average.
Just found a new beer store. No big variety but the little that they do have is all hard to find stuff. a whole row of pumpking and a bunch of other micro bombers. Im really upset that my stomach has been bothering me. Just saw that they built a buffalo wild wings in the closest city to me. And now this beer store. And i cant drink or eat anything without getting pains.

'Rare vos' is Dutch for 'weird fox'.
