Yet what causes us to want to look in the first place? Where does such illumination come from?

That's easy. Cause and effect being lit differently each time to the categorical understanding. And then there is also the judgment for Being in the light of misunderstanding cause by effect, i.e. distortion. :sunny:

You believe or have believed that it is so. You warm to pleasure and recoil from displeasure.

There was a time when I saw things in the light of good & evil. Now I see things in the sense of neccesity and the lack thereof. So to a certain extent you are correct. However I did not inherently know that there was good. The concept was ingrained into me from an early age by my loving parents.

Only on Tuesdays my friend :D

From Descartes we get, I am----or as he put it, I think therefore I am.

To which Sartre added that there is an inherent awareness, even if it is not explicitly stated, that I am conscious that I think.

This may at first seem a little redundant, but you must be aware that you are thinking before you can actually think that you are. He called this the cogito ego, or the precognitive ego.

    I think...I think I am...therefore I am!....I think?

OF COURSE YOU ARE MY BRIGHT LITTLE, I'VE MILES AND MILES OF FILES, PRETTY FILES OF YOUR FOREFATHERS FRUIT AND NOW TO SUIT OUR GREAT COMPUTER!!!, YOUR MAGNETIC INK

I'm more than that, I know I am, at least I think I must be...

There ya go man, Keep as cool as you can. Face piles of trials with smiles, It riles them to believe that you perceive the web the weave, So keep on thinking free and live every day on the threshold of a dream

Inherent understanding and inherent motive are the same.

and that your mom and dad had sex, didn't abort you, and pay for when you're ill.

    So I think you mean:

To create and preserve our own species.

Do we understand that, or is it just a primitive knee-jerk reaction that has been hard wired into our neural circuitry for the survival of our species?

Yes.....ALL species inherently create and preserve their own species. There's the outliers such as male lions that eat offspring, or women that choose abortion, but normally it is an instinct to preserve life.

In my opinion the phrase preserve life would be better put by saying that it is an inherent part of a human to preserve their own life. Most people don't give a damn about preserving others lives.
Alright new week and new question.
    What is purity?

maybe an inherent understanding comes from a pre-condition , like a long
established social understanding . rhythm may be one such fundamental .
could take a million cycles to establish it - unto understanding - and we'll
also understand the rhythm is itself as a cycle . i get this idea from my
work as a drum-maker . sometimes i get to present one to a toddler and
then hear what they do with it . i think especially when the time and space
is calm and mother is gently there we can hear a child drum-talk perfect
    time .
    .
    .

    purity ? it's very dependable .
