I didn't like winters in Kentucky, so moved to Thailand, where I could photograph exotic Thai birds I saw at the Louisville zoo, in the wild. In Nakhon, southern Thailand, at 8:15 a.m., it's 82 F-sea breeze blowing, In winter it's about 6 degrees cooler than in summer. View of Khao Luang National Park mountains (where I work) from my 4th floor apartment terrace, Nakhon, Thailand, near the sea:sunny: I live 15 km away from my school, and commute by motorbike..FUN! I have been seeing about two previously unobserved bird species a day in the past two weeks, but only take the expensive birding camera with me on weekends. My school is on the bottom slopes of the Khao Luang National Park-a range of jungle-covered mountains with birds I've mostly never even HEARD of. Here's a tiny bird I photographed near my school on the edge of the jungle. I'd never seen this species before-US birders often call new birds "lifers." 10 days ago 12-7-13, male Ruby-cheeked Sunbird, edge of Khao Luang National Park, near Nakhon, Thailand. :2thumbsup:
