has anyone here done the elimination diet to discover food allergies? if so how did it work for you, and do you have any tips? i've been considering it lately, because i've started to get suddenly angry again (like something happens and i get instantly angry, then snap, then feel instantly bad about it.) when i was younger this used to happen ALL the time, but once i hit 20 or so, my emotional responses switched from anger to depression, and i would just get sad/cry instead of getting angry and yelling or hitting (which i used to do.) over the years i've been investigated for various mental issues but it's been determined through trial and error that my depression is mainly situational, and anyway that i feel is truly part of my body, like something i can understand and work with. the anger on the other hand just comes out of nowhere. like my mom will say something and i will get instantly mad and yell at her. i don't have any disconnect between my thoughts and speech, so i pretty much do things as instantly as i think them. so it's possible i just have anger issues and don't know how to deal with them. but i am curious if food allergies play a role. i'm investigating this now because the other option is starting to take celexa again, which i'd rather not do, since i want to treat the cause, not the symptoms.
hello, oshin. My first thought is do you eat or drink anything with a red food color? Twizzlers make me short tempered. Pity. I liked them. I did an elim diet based on Dr. Elson Haas's work. See if your library has Staying Healthy with the Seasons and the New Detox Diet (which is elimination-based. Elson's theory comes from both western medicine and Traditional Chinese Medicine, and as a student of TCM theory (accupressure, tui na), I think it is a great mix of what they have to offer. I bought both books at Alibris for a buck or two apiece, but the shipping can get high if you don't go through just one seller.
According to my thoughts there are several instances when allergists found elimination diet which useful in accurately diagnosing patients with food allergy or sensitivity. A)When allergy testing is inconclusive. B)Trying to determine if symptoms are caused by something other than food sensitivity.
