So for the last 2-3 years I have been getting from a pain mgmt Dr. 300 of the 15mg IR's along with 90 of the 80mg Oxycontins. I usually rail the IR's and cut the Oxycontins up in quarters and just chew on a piece every hour or so. I know that im in REALLY deep at this point so would it be best to try tapering down or maybe try this Suboxone stuff? Another concern is if I do quit I would hate to lose getting prescribed these pills although im affraid if I continue things could get really ugly. I do tend to drink alcohol as well and there have been times that I have passed out and im sure there is a fine line of doing TOO much and just not waking up... Any help would be appreciated!
Tom, Quitting an addiction like opiates unfortunately doesn't have a recipe that works for everyone, which I'm sure you probably know, but I say that because the recipe that will work for you will NOT contain a concern about losing one's script. All that says is, you aren't truly ready to quit. I know this to be true because the first time I said I wanted to quit, I also didn't want to close that same door because what if I fail? In hindsight, with that thought process, 95% or more will fail simply because you left the door to failure unlocked. Most every opiate addict that got themselves clean and maintained it, removed all other options because to truly want to quit means you reached the bottom, your bottom, and the only options are to quit or to continue, knowing if you do keep going, your life as you know it may not be available to get back to. I took my last Opiate 2 years ago and my last Sub 1 year ago this month, and it truly is a daily battle to maintain, knowing that all I have to do to get rid of the pain is to take a pill. Having said that, after quitting, I did realize that I can live with my pain and enjoy my life and it's that fact that keeps me moving forward everyday! If your mindset is "I can no longer deal with this addiction, I have got to Quit" then Suboxone can be your miracle! If you look at sub's like another opiate, it most likely will not work for you! Good luck man, you can do this if you truly want to!
Thanks BottleFed that makes sense. Has your quality of life improved sinse quitting? I do feel like im missing out on alot by doing so much.
