I just saw a documentary on Woodstock, and the amount of trash left behind really makes me wonder. The pictures of it were really just insane how much trash was left behind. I'm sure Woodstock was great for peace and love, but it makes me think that most people there were just about free drugs, sex and rock n' roll (which is ok I guess), but it makes it seem not so much about the other more important stuff.
I don't know about Woodstock, but now after festivals there are folks hired to go pick up the trash and stuff left behind. I have yet to see enough trash cans at any festival I've been to, so it's bound to happen. Of course peace and love is what Woodstock was all about, but sex drugs and rock-n-roll made Woodstock what it was as well.
Interesting thought. It was interesting to see what sort of a mess was left behind. It looked like a war zone there. In an old thread a one or two people said that they stuck around to pick up some of the garbage.
missed Woodstock cuz I was too young but, have ya ever been to a Rainbow Gathering after about 3,000 to 25,000 people camp for about a couple of weeks...not everyone carries out what they carry in...it you can just imagine just the cans that can accumulate in just one day...but, a old hippy friend of mine said there was so many pipes and weed accidently left behind, he found pills and acid that it was a party for days to come...clothes and shoes ...it was a winfall of free goodies and yeh...the trash...that was a bummer.:&
Yes, I helped weith the clean-up after the Woodstock 69 festival. I was only 14 at the time but I did my part. I figure about 2000 people stayed behind and helped with this effort and the place didn't look that bad after we were done, although the fields were in bad shape due to the aftermath of the rain and the trampled mud. Peace, ALI
While the crowd was smaller for Coventry (I wasn't there), check out the horrendous mess the Phish fans left behind: http://www.sover.net/~hackmohr/grafs/camp2sm.jpg
If only you could see a before pic... I was there and it was so messy and muddy, but we picked up after ourselves! CLEAN VIBES
Is it true that alot of women were raped at woodstock? Thats what I hurd from several diffrent people
I hadn't heard about rapes at the original woodstock, but the corporate event called "woodstock" in 1999 had several rapes, as well as arson and other fun stuff... Notable events at the original included one birth (wonder where that kid is today?), and one death (guy run over by truck while passed out in sleeping bag).
http://www.woodstock69.com/ DONT FORGET the generation of the 60s were born in the late 50s and grew up in the 60s .. buying stuff and discarding of used items was normal ..most of the stuff you see on the field were rugs ,rags ,cardboard, anything you could use to sit on for 3 days other wise you be sitting on dirt or soil after all this was a farm field not a sport arena like most concert were after woodstock. not to mention they had a strong rain storm that came by. by the way the rain storm was like if God had visit the concert it self it made thing more dificult but it tested the will of that young generation. the young ones stood theyr ground. 10.000 years may go by before maybe another event similar to this might happen again = Maybe. but i think this was a one shot deal.
not true why rape when most were eager to do it. beside the generation of the 60s were much difrent from the ones now. if you wanted sex you just ask for it. also most people went in small groups of friends that included best friends and boyfriends and girlfriends.
A few weeks ago there was a big show at the german tv, celebrating 50 years of Rockmusic. They managed to invite this couple from the albumcover, still together after all this years. Woodstock: Three days of music, peace, love, no food, cold rain, and no way to leave
