Melatonin is pretty much standard routine. If I'm particularly wound up and know that won't be enough then diphenhydramine an hour or two before I plan on sleep in addition to the melatonin. I try to keep the diphenhydramine dose as small as possible such as 12.5mg (half a tablet), the more of that I take the more lethargic I will be the next day. Benzos work if taken infrequently but tend to lose effectiveness when taken every night.
