I entirely agree. I don't think art should be classified according to whether or not it conforms to our personal tastes. If I was to take issue with the image of the mice being art, it would be on the grounds that I'm uncomfortable with the notion of images of butchery being classified in such a way. I'm quite happy to concede the point that it may be art, but if it is, then I think that the notion of 'art' sacrifices any inherent worth, and just becomes an empty adjective in the same way as 'painting'.

Ah well, actually I see Art as an empty adjective, same as "painting", that does not mean I see it as worthless. I do see some things labeled art that are worthless, but I call those things "Bad art" haha.

I do not see "Art" as a word or classification that occupies some sacred though, its just a defenition to me, "the use of skill and imagination in the creation of aesthetic objects, environments, or experiences that can be shared with others"

That of course is not to say that I do not believe art is a great great thing. I find most art to be awe inspiring, riddled with beauty and the visual representations of all the thoughts, feelings, and emotions that god gave us. But,

The worthiness of a piece of Art is entirely on a case by case basis. Just because somethng horrendous to you or me is catagorized as an art piece does not destroy the beautiful potential of art itself.

This was so fucking disgusting, when I first saw it, I though it was a practical joke, and that it had been photoshopped, in much the same manner as bonsai kitten. But when i found out that it isn't just a sick joke, I was pretty fucking appalled.

wow...I consider myself an artist... and I really don't like mice...however..my real question is "how" did she obtain the animal parts...
I'm not a vegetarians but, I respect if life is to be take..there should be a high level of care and respect to that animal...mice are a pain in the ass... I presently don't have a cat and "they" know it all too well those pesky devils...but, I can imagine killin' em and then arranging their little body part on fancy napkins then photographing them...seems kinda "tweeked" to me however there was a french artist who with a special technic, he would take embalmed bodies peel away the skin, laquact them then pose them in everyday activities...like riding on horses, brushing hair etc....macbre, gross, even weird...but, some call it art..

It's not just the fact that poor little animals are getting slaughtered needlessly, but the fact that this is considered art?! What the bloody hell has this world come to where one can obtain fame and fortune through art by BARELY DOING ANYTHING?! I mean, let's compare here; Michalangelo sacrifices the greatest years of his life making stunningly visual masterpieces beyond compare that took hundreds of years to finnaly be aknowledged in modern art, while some sickly individual lops the torsos off of five mice and shoves her fingers up what would be their tiny asses if they still had them in what would have probably taken a total time of about 5 minutes. How could something so beautiful and once so compassionate be manipulated into such ugliness?! For Gods Sake, its bastards like these who are ruining the art world for people who can appreciate the time, effort, and passion that can be put into art. Shame on you, murdering artist! You are a bad person, and you made me cry! uh, sorry, just had to...

I hate when an argument about a piece someone does not like turns into a arguement about wht art is in the next breath. If you consider the only true art to be created by Michaelangelo, because he spent so much time on it, then Im sorry to dissapoint you but art was destroyed way before this incident. This artist did not "barely do anything." Time of creation does not have anythig to do with art, how can this be said when photography is now one of the most popular art forms? Snap, wind, develop, print.

That being said, I dont like all of this womans work.

I agree... art is whatever someone defines it be these days.

The fact still stands that this is morally wrong... but then I think all animal killing and suffering is wrong.

Whether it's for art, clothes or food.... there is no need for it in this day and age.

The art issue is the most offensive to me as i feel it is parading the suffering of animals for pure asthetics...

She may say she is trying to make a point about human hypocracy... I feel humans are hypocritical in their treatment of animals too.

I do not believe that is her driver though... neither do I believe this is morally right.

She is purely out to shock for shockings sake... part of art is to provoke a reaction from your audience though... but NOT at the expense of a life though in my opinion.

Once the disgust wears off I find myself bored by her art work. I find it immature and vacuous.

    Love Clairexxx

Well, that much can be agreed on, but since when did you get the idea that only the actions of this artist in question exploit art? Arts exploitation has been going on for years! It's women like her who simply contribute to such exploitation. And I love Michalangelo's art because of it's style and detail. Shit, I wouldn't care if it took him three minutes to make it, I only love it because of the vast detail and beauty put in it. Besides, there are so many other artisits I love, including Salva Dor Dali, Gogh, DaVinci, etc... I don't just love Michaelangelo because of his art, man. Jeez. Anywhoo, I shouldn't prattle on like this. I jus' wanted to get my opinion out and aboot.
