An abused child owes the abusive parent nothing at all in the way of respect. People who abuse children are simply criminals who deserve to be punished. People who were abused as children usually carry the scars all through their lives. You can vote out a bad president, you can't vote out a bad parent. Your stuck with them until you're old enough to leave. Titles etc mean absolutely nothing in this context. Just the biological role as parent gives that person immense power over another helpless life. If they abuse it no amount of sophistry can remedy the situation.
Which is why I asked the question. I do not think it is sophistry to think about, in the context of the Decalogue, who is being referred to as a parent. Theologians vigorously discuss these types of issues.
