Everyone is celebrating but I think its a little too early to suck each other’s cock, we advanced but…

We won the first game; we blew the second, and lost the third, but advanced because one of Ghana’s best players attacked one of their own team officials with a broken beer bottle, and the team threatened to boycott the game unless their government paid them $3,000,000 dollars which was flown in last night from Ghana

No, the US advanced because they had 4 points and a better goal differential

You seem to be missing the point; do you really believe the players from Ghana were really focused after last nights hiatus?

No one's saying biting is okay. Its a dirty, ridiculous thing to do.
But justice has to be consistent and proportionate.

I know ex pros who are virtually crippled. Yet the party who deliberately did it, gets away with no punishment at all. Likewise deliberate elbows, headbutts causing substantial damage like CTE.

I'd much much rather be bitten than receive the above injuries. Biting deserves bans, but only commensurate with other wrongdoings.

you seem to be missing the point. All teams have problems and have to deal with it.

I know saliva mixing with blood can transmit bacteria etc.
I wonder what the possibilities of this would be, given top players are so regularly blood tested.

1stly tho, I'd want to check whether the pic is accurate, as football is prone to its own tribal politics.
2ndly, clashes of heads etc regularly run the risk of blood-blood contact. And CTE is massively under-estimated in sports. (A friend of mine has it, ex rugby player), he's only in his 30s and he's in a REALLY bad way).

If someone bites, then ofcourse they deserve a ban. But I think the gap between this penalty and other attacks is too high. Perhaps headbutts etc should have much higher penalties, who knows?

Definitely yes, I would say. American football needs to ban the head-hunters too.

This South Korea Belgium game is amazing,
RED CARD, what are we at, 6 red cards in total now?

Edit: Just wanted to add, you have to note this is the THIRD time Suárez has bit someone. That's why he should be forever banned, you shouldn't have to be playing a sport, and be afraid of randomly being bit by someone

It would be interesting to see how much FIFA felt he'd deliberately attempted to bite/penetrate the skin.
When I saw it live, I thought he was attempting to push with his head. 2nd time, I thought he was doing a "mouthing" gesture at the same time, to unsettle the player.

I'd also be interested to see what the current medical view is on this sort of thing. In S American, biting isn't see as "as serious as in Europe". Likewise in sports like rugby, biting regularly goes unpunished.

Finally, an England player, now in the US, bit an opponent, not that long ago. Punishment? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

This article suggests that biting isn't considered "serious injury" by football authorities.

Thats funny in that article... "He was just being mischievous. in a playful and humorous way...it's part of the game"...

I believe the current medical view is that 10-15 % of human bites get infected.

Infact it says "FIFA rules prevented us from taking action".

I wonder if the 10-15% are because biters tend to be junkies/hobos or whatever (seriously). Its unlikely a top world footballer has undetected hepatitis or AIDS etc. But either way, a strange affair. Not least because his club suffered much more than Uruguay with the sanctions.

It's not just about Hep and aids
Everyone has a mouth full of bacteria, you don't have to be a bum or a junky to give someone a staph infection. The staph bacteria can live harmlessly in your mouth, but directly in a wound from a bite it can be very serious.

Excluding dogs, humans bite humans more often than any other animal

It would be interesting to see if there was skin abrasion or piercing tho. I've heard reports that it wasn't. Why was there no action taken against Jermaine Defoe?

They pay them millions for kicking a ball while scientist and people that matter don't have money for anything.
