my biggest question about the internet is still what is the point of the "share on facebook" button on porn sites. i'm pretty sure you can't share porn videos on facebook, let alone would anyone want to.

Skip, could you define the HF mission statement, and what your goals are for HF?

I'm guessing that the mission statement is something like "To be a site for all things hippie and free speech."

I'm guessing that to fulfill such a mission statement, HF has to reach certain site traffic and revenue goals.

Is there a specific traffic or revenue target that HF needs to reach in order to remain viable?

We might be able to provide some valuable feedback if we know more about what's going on.

I was just thinking today that it used to be when I logged on the majority of threads were about politics, religion and psychedelics.
Now 99% of them are about some lame fucked up sexual thing.
Personally I think THAT is a very large factor in the decline over the last couple of years.
I know at least a couple of members have left and stated that the shift towards a sex oriented site was the reason.

Generally, the average IQ level of the threads was about 45 points higher a couple years ago.

now the in-bred, backwoods, Jerry Springer episode type threads have taken precedence.

Not saying I'm against the sex threads or anything, just that it has changed the overall feel and complexion of the site.

and a move to U.S. west coast servers would be cool, maybe I'll get faster load times .

out of 40 new posts that came up as "new posts", 26 of them are sexually oriented.

and it's pretty much that ratio every time

i've always thought that this site performed well, a couple little bugs that aren't really a big issue.

security should be a number one priority if going to a new system as I'm sure you know this.

also, not sure how exactly you would implement this or if it would really be practical at all but adding IP addresses of known law enforcement agencies to a blacklist just as you would any other IP that abuses the server sounds like a good idea. the major ones could easily be obtained, such lists exist somewhere. it would have to be kept updated, and maybe have some other way to determine that an IP is associated with lawenforcement and refuse connections from said IP addresses. you couldn't keep all of it out cuz if it was more than casual snooping they could just use different connections, but you could do your best to cut down on it as much as you can. there could be the risk of blacklisting legitamate users though.

 

Why?
Skip has nothing to hide and concerning questionable activity or posting about illegal activity conducted via the forum is already very clearly dealt with in the guidelines.

If he starts blocking IP's and shit, all that does is raise suspicion and elicit further scrutiny.
If you're concerned then don't post about cooking drugs in your kitchen. It really is that simple.
This isn't Silk Road or some shit.
