and I didn't mean it in necessarily a bad way. My biggest concern is that as tech increases, the expectaions of the end user's abilities have been relagated to the realm of a pre-school level of education. If there isn't a cute, flashing. wiggling icon to click, many people are lost. Cursive writing is no longer a requirement in Ca. elementary schools and they no longer teach it..........just sayin'..... is that the direction we are heading. Makes me think the movie "Idiocracy" may be more prophetic than comedic.
I think my new android phone is more advanced than my PC. It's been 3 days now, and I'm still trying to wrap my head around all that it does. I remember when having a beeper on my hip seemed technologically advanced, lol..
I understand. I presumed XP mode didn't actually mean you were using XP but an XP emulator. But on further investigation that doesn't seem the case. I wouldn't want to be using any programme that said it was essentially running XP. As that is probably not true. I don't think Shale is a Luddite, not even with a lower case l. Shale: We could always bring thousands, heck, a few million, of jobs back to the UK and US and pay three times as much for the same thing. Great idea. :2thumbsup:
I like my android tablet phone but it really isn't like a PC. It's certainly getting there, though. Ironically, I returned my Microsoft tablet as it didn't do what an android was capable of (I couldn't find the same amount of app's)
I have owned a couple computers in my life. First was a sony vio that was the most expensive computer the store had and that was on the market at the time. Next day it was outdated, But every time I 'thought' it needed upgraded, Cleaned etc the comp tech's said it needed cleaned and still more efficient than new. It finally died a couple years ago, Still comes on, But overheats and then slows down. It lasted a good 8 years and was happy with its overall performance. Now im using a computer like shale mentioned, If you are 5' and have midget hands, Works perfect. Over the couple years with it, I have adapted to what it can and cant do. Its a little Asus Eee PC, Or something of that nature. It is what it is, Nothing to stop the punitive progress of the almighty dollar and who has the quickest software. Just think where and what we will be using 10 years from now, At the rate its going, IMO its scary.
I think you hit the nail on the head there. It's a trend I too have observed with new versions of windows.
I use my phone to ssh and do server admin stuff a few times a work. In the right hands I find it difficult to come up with many things that a pc can do that an android cannot... especially with a bluetooth keyboard.
I had a manual typewriter just like yours (when I was attending college in the 1990s). I finally bought a used iMac in 2005. Really cool pic. :sunny: QP
Hello, I don't know much about phones, but I heard there is an existing LaTeX implementation for Android. So be prepared to lose the bet . Regards Gyro
I think typing it, adding tables and pics would be possible, but printing directly from an android device, that's a little trickier and probably would require some third party app.
Can you run AutoCadd SolidWorks or LightWave https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WhHkcCDuATk"]LightWave 3D Montage Reel - YouTube on that puppy?
Well the LG phone I just got has a 1.2 Ghz dual core processor, 1 gig of main memory plus 16 gigs on a micro-sd card. So far it manages multi-tasking rather well, plays video as well as my pc, is wi-fi enabled, e-mail, etc., etc. Hardware wise this is on par with lower end laptops. It's getting the apps to do all the document creation that can present a challenge. almost got a windows phone, that came with a version of Office installed with Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook, but it actually had a slower processor and less apps overall, and windows phones are still "meh", so I opted for android.
i wouldn't be surprised if you can. but i damd sure wouldn't want to. autocad and lightwave, i use blender, and even my super high power laptop (well it was when i bought it fiver or six years ago) is marginal for how i like to work. i suppose if you could attach a usb hub to one of those things, you could use it for a cray-1. but why would you want to?
