I love all my junk ! and I have tons of things around me I am not daft enough to think I can take anything with me when I die , But why would I need to ? TBH I cant even think of the smallest thing I would be happy to get rid off
Most things I have that I would not want to part with are more for sentimental reasons rather than for the sake of keeping material possessions. Most of those are not replaceable or would be very difficult to do so. I probably would not replace them in any event as the sentimental reasons would then not be there. I do have a couple of collections that were started for me by others, those well I tend to still have as someone cared enough to find pieces to add to it.
I like collecting useless little bits of junk.Often thought of opening a junkshop, but have very little ambition beyond staying alive and with it.Some of this new product that is constantly coming out is just to much though.Basically I can just about fit all my possessions in one room, and that's the way I like it.I feel a move coming on,further out from central London.
I'm a materialist in reverse. I love to throw things away (or give them away). De-cluttering is a great relief. The objects that I am most attached to have a great function in my life and serve their purpose well. When they are no longer able to serve their purpose, I don't hesitate to send them along.
everything can serve SOME purpose. we just don't have infinite room to keep all of them. i don't like to accumulate things i can't actually use though. those ARE just clutter. especially things that other people think impress each other.
Last year...after yet again rearranging my garage to create more space....I just decided to get rid of most of the stuff out there. I had some decent stuff too. A rolling upright steel tool chest, chainsaws, all sorts of stuff. I decided that the stuff was worth something but it was stuff I haven't used in a long time. So I decided to inventory all of it and if I couldn't say for sure that I had plans to use something....I got rid of it. I posted a list of 47 items online, said they were completely free but the only thing was.....the stuff has to be picked up in the next 24 hours. Almost all of it was gone and I was quite amused with all my new extra space. Right now we are in the process of moving so we can have some major renovations done to our house and I'm hoping we get rid of about half of all this stuff. I can say for sure that most of the stuff in our basement will not be coming back with us.
That is exactly me, too. I love finding the perfect people for things I have to give..... It is another joy of mine....to know something went somewhere it was supposed to go... Back to house today that is 65 miles away....alot has been bagged up already for garbage, and I just happened to open one of the big hefty bags to find out what was being deemed garbage....A 100 % cashmere sweater with no holes, for example.....so I rescued it and a few other things in that garbage bag....and it bothers me I did not go through all of the other garbage bags.......but no time to do that, as I do not live there..... One person's garbage is another's treasure and vice versa.....
Ha ha! Cashmere sweater that was tossed, as it had a spot/stain on it....well, you know what? I sprayed the stain with oxi clean and washed the sweater in cold delicates, and no more stain! Now, I have a nice red, V-neck cashmere sweater for the holidays.... I found some other neat clothes items today.....some real cool stuff....alot of red things...a wool knit cherry red jacket top with wide black velvet ribbon closing it in a bow in front, and weaving in the fabric all the way down the sweater, and a skirt to match it.....silk tops....and yellow things....and some white and other colors, too.... This stuff can join my other stuff I never wear now.....lol
For me, mostly things with sentimental value (like old jackets and the things i loved when i was a kid) and my book and CD collections. That's really it.
humans and their "sentimental value", accumulating crap to them they never use, when someone else might need, AND ACTUALLY USE, it to survive.
these are things that are actually USED. unlike, say for example, a musical instrument used as a wall decoration. that its owner couldn't play a note on if their life depended on it.
I have a lot of family history that I'm very proud of, some of it is the form of material thing. Stuff my great grandfather, grandfather, uncles, and mother have made. I'm very attached to it.
