Oh, that's too bad. I've seen them both live, Within Temptation on a free outdoor festival and After Forever supporting My Dying Bride. It was nice.
AAAAAHHH you're all missing the point! Louis Armstrong was, and always will be the best vocalist ever... can't believe nobody mentioned him yet.... Other great ones are Roger Waters, Thom Yorke and uhm... maybe Jamie Cullum As for the women... Grace Slick and Janis Joplin, but Ella Fitzgerald is good as well...
ok, i couldn't hold back... here's the extended (yet not full) list... aretha franklin thom yorke kurt cobain mary j blige matt bellamy al green barry white janis joplin bob marley jimi hendrix jim morrison marvin gaye lauryn hill jill scott musiq soulchild (yes, as you can tell i am a fan of R&B) anthony kiedis patti labelle (don't ask) mariah carey (gotta give credit where it's due) ray charles
Marvin Gaye... I like him... his backing band was the funk brothers. They started in 1959. By the time their band quit playing, the funk brothers played on more number one hits than the Rolling Stones, Elvis, the Beach Boys, and the Beatles combined... they were THE studio musicians and backing band of motown... they played for everyone from the temptations to marvin gaye... they were the motown sound. http://www.standingintheshadowsofmotown.com/
Al Green and Jim Morrison, I left off my list... I would add Jimi Hendrix... and I will. His acoustic version of "Angel" is just... beautiful.
