Thank you for that insight. That story about Bradley Manning DISGUSTED me, and the video of the woman being beaten was so heart-wrenching. *shakes head*
Do you know if that officer was punished? And is Bradley still held in this prison?

I've got a lot of research to do! Thank you so much for sharing!

I don't know anything about the male in the video but I know the woman sued and was awarded hundreds of thousands of dollars. I don't know what became of Bradley Manning.

Acknowledging the reality is necessary. Never losing sight of your ideals, what you believe in and what you love is VITAL. :)

Apparently he has a future outside of prison in less than a decade. That future freedom won't erase the fact that s/he's been tortured. There isn't any entity on Earth that can arrest and apprehend a corrupt government so they act with impunity with one exception: they're still human beings. To do what they do to others corrupts themselves. They become abominations that should be removed from the field, imo.

one quality that would be shared by an ideal person and an ideal society (i prefer the anthropological term: "culture"),
is the self discipline to refrain from aggressiveness.

(the holding your own ground excuse doesn't wash. aggressiveness is when you invade someone else's)

Not everyone can refrain from aggressiveness. Some might need a boxing ball or something. I don't see the problem with that. Supressing those feelings to make others happy might be honourable but not really the most beneficial for those persons themselves in the end :p

The idea of guilt is an active assault on the idea of ideal persons. As to among most important reasons I would say it is a potent and pernicious premise in the formation of our perceptions of the phenomena of human behavior. It makes it most impossible to apprehend the phenomena of man on an objective basis because the scale of worthiness is a sliding one depending on things like mood, cultural specifics, and financial status.

Thank you for all those quotes- the focus on technology was interesting!

I feel like the feeling of guilt is important. Guilt keeps me from doing the wrong thing- even if it's small. Ben's favorite color Starbursts are pink ones. He left the thingy of starbursts on the table, and I (secretly wanting the pink one) took it while he was in the bathroom. I was going to eat it, but guilt made me feel way too bad for taking his pink starburst to the point that I put it back in the container and confessed my attempted sin to him :p

So you think if not for guilt you would be bad? The guilty are bad, that is why they are called guilty. You seem to have good intentions. My opinion is if not for love we wouldn't care to do good things. Who told you it would be shameful to eat pink starburst and what reward do you get for professing your guilt?

Peace is the extended quality of the tranquil mind and it exists only where it's conditions are met. To teach and learn peace, be peaceful. The mind in contention with sin, the guilty or accusing mind, is not tranquil.

Aaah... i feel good now. Thus it takes a utopist to set the record straight for "HOW there is an IDEAL SOCIETY." "WHAT is an IDEAL SOCIETY." Any pure environmentalism?

You only mean your ideal society is not the way the world is now. :-D

One that doesn't have to end. Can you believe in such a thing?

Apparently fictional... unless maybe when you are an opportunist?
