Pretty surprising considering that the Arabs and the Persians discovered that the Earth travels around the Sun a long time ago, while the West was living thought the Fall or Rome and the Middle Ages.

WRONG ! The Greek " Atomists " first figured out the Earth revolved around the sun way back in 500 to 600 BC. Also said ATOMISTS had a viable understanding of chemistry and much more. They accurately measured the size of the Earth and the distance from the Earth to the moon way back then. Check out the Greek " Atomists ".

 

It is not a contest who was first oscar. Fact is arabs and persians knew a lot about astronomy already before they adopted the islamic religion.

Now, I think people that lived in north west Europe also knew a lot about astronomy, centuries before the ancient greeks wrote down their astrological knowledge (stonehenge is a good example). Does this takes away from the astronomical knowledge of the ancient greeks? So please don't make it in a pityful competition, well you can if you insist on doing that. But there's little point

 

Of course the cleric doesn't account for the fact that the airplane is already moving as fast as the rotation just sitting on the ground. It is this individuals reason that is suspect, not his history.

You're jumping to conclusions about me (and thedope) again. It doesn't solve other peoples lack of peace perhaps, but it definitely doesn't add to the peace either. Certainly not your own peace. You make yourself sound upset and angry because of what one guy proclaims. You're not even sure how many people will take his words as the truth.
