Irish gal here....but no. Seems it's just an excuse to go get drunk and act a fool.

I actually thought about not having my party this year. This past week I was getting texts from people telling me they would be here for the party so I was kind of forced into it. It was happening if I planned it or not. I'm usually the only Irish one here and I'm usually the only sober one. There are always crazy shenanigans at our parties.

It's a pretty huge deal in my current city. I'm not even kind of Irish, so, not my thing!

My kids grand parents came to the US from Ireland in '49 or '50 on the Queen Mary. Their family had owned a little bar in Bally Duff for generations --so yeah--they are going to celebrate. #2 son was born on the 16th and his son was born on the 17th.

I stopped celebrating St Patrick's day when I stopped going to St Patrick's church almost 30 years ago. There was always a big celebration at that church because it was named in honor of St pat.

I will however drink a beer with friends on St Patrick's day.

i'll celebrate the colors green and orange together, but not some bloody bastard who killed a bunch of druids.
    snakes indeed
the only snakes were his own lot.
of course he actually meant water dragons
    who never hurt anybody either.

a brisket of corned beef, a head of cabbage and a potatoe, boil together vigoursly until dead, and i suppose, wash down with liberal doses of eirish 'water'. well supposedly its the same word.
hot boiled corned beef and cabbage isn't bad. all the loudmouthed drunks i could live without just fine though.

    to each their own.

odd thing about the day. started out in new york city a hundred and some odd years ago. never had anything directly to do with the emerald isle. even though that's what people have come to think of it as being about.
just as totally wild guess, well the cops in new york around that time were many of them refugees from the eirish potatoe famine.
and corned beef was one of the cheaper cuts of meat. kind of the opposite of now. becuase people want it to celebrate the day.

so i think it started as some kind of a spin thing, so people in all the other ethnic ghetoes wouldn't want to make war on all the irish cops.

i know some of the things i come up with sound kind of strange, but if you look into the history of it, see if i'm as far off as i sound.

anyway they did have some lovely narrow gauge railways in eireland. and a really wonderful odd thing called the listowal and ballybunion, even the name's a bit funny odd, for a kind of monorail, that ran close to the ground, the lefarge system its called. only other place i know of one was built was death valley, and that one never really got going. but the l and b was a common carrier with both passenger and freight service.

funny looking thing, worth looking up too.

green is a good color. its all about fields and forests. too bad the milsians who came to be the de danu, never got along, or according to their own ledgends anyway didn't, with the possibly indiginous fir bolg.

and that was even long before either of them had ever heard of rome.

when is it, by the way?

and speaking of days (not to mention rome) tomorrow IS 'the ides of march".

patric was an ass, but i like the color green.
fine little bit of celtic landscape.
people are seldom what interest me.
wish i only had to hear trains and nature
instead of the crap people seem to insist on being entertained by.

Only if someone wants to go to Savannah to celebrate. There's it a big weekend long block party. I don't even go to drink, just to dance in the streets, walk around and be entertained by all the wild people.

all holidays are good, but they're sort of all the same too.
any day off from work or school or making the world other then you'd like it to be.
i think the main thing i do for most of them is just observe that other people celebrate them
and enjoy seeing other people happy from doing so
but that's really all any of them mean to me.
no one mentioned the ides of march, at least on here,
someone on another place where i am on the net
mentioned eating baked ceaser for that one.
i'm not sure what baked ceaser is,
i'm guessing some kind of pastry.
the only ceaser i know about, other then the historic one(s),
is a kind of salad and dressing.
which wouldn't make too much sense to bake.
but anyway, green is prettiest color there is.
(where as alky is one of the dumbest consumables)

Well, here it is.....maybe will need to go get a new parakeet and maybe she or he will be green....:(

anyway.....I used to dress up dolls for St patty's Day and write stories...here are a few photos I found from when I illustrated stories with dolls.
but I stopped doing that....as I don't know about laws of using other people's artist dolls for illustrations, so now, I just paint or draw my own illustrations....
