Aerianne, may I ask why you find it necessary to always start threads about tragedies, crimes, and whatever other bad shit is in the headlines?

it's as if HF has it's own news reporter....:(

    Why not?

    Anyone can do it.

Why have a "Latest News" section with no news in it?

it's just that you tend to gravitate to the depressing and tragic headlines more than anything else.

understandable as that is what you have learned from how you have absorbed information from the mainstream media for your entire life, bad news is the only news worth reporting.

How about you not make this personal and try to analyze my personality?

Why don't you balance things out and post some good news, Noxious?

I have flown. I'll never fly again. I said that back in 74' when i left Hawaii and I mean it. I can't imagine the horror of going down and knowing it.

    Scratcho, me either!

They said the plane was in decline for 8 minutes, were as it usually is only 3-4 minutes when something like that happens.

You're still more save in a commercial airplane every once in awhile than being in a car on the road. That being said, I never had a car accident neither and maybe same for you, scratcho, but apparently these are still the statistics.

    I believe you misunderstand.
My comment is not an indictment against you personally, but about mainstream media and how you as well as others have been influenced/conditioned by it when it comes to what is considered "newsworthy".

I'd take that over a painful terminal disease.

Not too many people get to die in their sleep.

Ok here we go with the subjective interpretation. Newsworthy = subjective. Something being "newsworthy" to a person, involves essentially the same decision-making process we use when deciding what color cars we want to drive: We choose what interests you the most. So if you observe that trend from @Aerianne, then just go with it as there are many authors/members and we all have different interests. You'd rather turn on the tv and see the same thing on every channel? Clearly not hence different people = different tastes = different news stories

Unnecessary criticism aside, this is a trajedy. Airlines today should have better security in place. Airline security is so focused on preventing unauthorized people from entering the cockpit (most of these cases/situations I bet), that we forget to address how to get a person out* of the cockpit if they've managed to lock themselves inside. They should have biometric sensors (retina/eye/finger print) on the cock pit door

    Noxious, move along.

The Latest New section isn't the place to be complaining about what makes the news.

Start a thread about it over in the Media section.

It sometimes only takes a small margin of error to crash a commercial aircraft.
If the pilot /copilot wish to crash the plane it will be done long before any safety features take over. They just havent reached that age of technology yet, for the plane to fly to and fro without human beings.
a door does not prevent any hostiles already inside the cockpit.

I wonder if the pilot had a heart attack or something or purposely kept the other pilot out to crash the plane. too weird.

it seems like he purposely kept him out. I was reading the pilot can always open the door unless the person in the cockpit is purposely denying entry. If the copilot had a heart attack or was unconscious the pilot could have obtained entry.

This seems not so bad on itself.

But fair point: the news could be more diverse/balanced. Good news can be news too! Except, unless you do want her to be THE news reporter of HF:
