Too bad that inbred DNA got passed down so many generations.

I never, ever, EVER advocate violence against humans or animals, but property damage is sometimes a different matter entirely. If any of the young black guys around Columbia have any balls or access to a pipe bomb, that CSA flagpole won't be there when the sun comes up tomorrow, unless the rednecks stand guard all night.

Have you seen footage of the crowds gathered outside the church? All are mourning and praying. No signs of anger, no chants for revenge against white people or even against racists groups. Amazing.

So different from the 1960's; most people of all races understand that the shooter does not represent the average white person in any way.

Gun laws go State by State. Here in New Jersey it requires : a specific reason to purchase a hand gun, A purchaser needs two character witnesses. The local police chief has to either sign off or veto the handgun permit.

Our problems are with illegal handguns smuggled in.

Unless there is something new in the news today, it has not been revealed (yet) if he is...I'm not 100% certain, but I'm fairly sure that KKK members are not supposed to tell IF they are part of the KKK. I rather doubt he would do this just because he is "Friends With KKK". More like he is proving what a good lil KKK dude he is.

I know for an absolute fact that there are people in SC with his exact same last name are indeedy KKK members.

In his writing, at least what we've found so far, there have been no references to any organizations other than the Confederacy. He was displaying the Confederate flag on the front of his car.

Admittedly I'm a Northerner and have spent very little time in the South but I just don't get the whole Confederate flag thing.

I don't either. They're not very common in NC. We never display them on public property, other than in a museum or at a historic site. Maybe it's partly because the pre-Civil War era was not that good for us. We didn't have a lot of big, wealthy plantations.

The initial news reports were that his father gave him the gun. Actually, the father gave him $400 and he bought the gun himself. His father and other relatives said they were not pleased with him buying the gun (probably aware that he was a racist nutcase)

That too was my initial reaction because I have family from Mississippi (The state with the stars & bars as part of its state flag) and I know racism is endemic in the population there as in all the South, but not everyone. I always suspected one of my Mississippi uncles was in the Klan and another relative recently confirmed it. (Our one moment of bonding was in the late 60s when he was bitching about the FBI infiltrating the Klan and I was pissed at them for infiltrating Hippie doper communes.) Anyhow, it is disheartening to see ppl like my uncle and other Old South bigots teaching their kids to hate - it goes on and on and on for centuries.

But the family of this asswipe seems sane enuf. When the survelance footage from the church showed on the news, it was reported that both the father and uncle called the police with an ID, which is why he was caught so quickly, since they had his car info. The family also gave a sincere apology to the victims and one uncle said if they need someone to pull the switch, he'd do it. Which, BTW is my attitude. I do not give excuses for violent criminals even if they are committed by family. When my nephew was sent to prison for armed robbery, my wife and I did not communicate with him further. All I could have said to the boy was "HOW DARE YOU!"

My family is from Mississippi and I had a great-great grandfather who was in the CSA. They tell me whenever Dixie played he would make everyone stand at attention and hit them with his cane if they didn't. But that was the South at the turn of the 20th Century. You'd think it would have gotten over the backward stupidity but it didn't. As a teen I remember all the "white" & "colored" separate facilities in the South, including the drinking fountain at the J.C. Penney store in Brookhaven MS. (I drank out of the colored side - the water for both came from the same pipe - how stupid can they be).

Also, if there is any consciousness after death, you can be sure Grampa Doc Robertson was spinning in his grave when I married a black woman. :D

Most of my Southern relatives are aware of my black family and are outwardly OK with it - Only deleted one from my facebook friends for being a too outspoken bigot. In fact some of my younger distant relatives in Mississippi that I've met on FB have black (and gay) friends on their pages - so there really is a New South.

But unfortunately, there are far too many who cling to the mythology of Southern Heritage and that stupid Rebel Battle Flag (It is not the flag of the confederacy - only looks cooler). IDK how many more centuries before these immature, intellectually stunted losers will die out.

I'm a native South Carolinian and I dont get it. I live in Greenville in the upstate and I almost never encounter it. Its just always been something I make fun of when I venture into more rural parts of the state. You'll never really see one in Charleston either. I'm not sure what's wrong with Columbia.

The new south is rising though - there was a big protest Saturday in Columbia to have it removed. And I think most people here really do believe that "heritage, not hate" bs. Which is ironic because I've been reading there were like 4 different confederate flags used during the confederacy and this particular one didn't gain traction until after the war when the KKK adopted it as their banner and later was commonly used to protest the civil rights movement. So I dont think the "heritage, not hate" folks know as much about the flag's heritage as they claim.

Ah man, Americans has the challenge indeed. You are my inspiration though and i know you wont let me down. You just need to do what i did years ago, i pulled the plug of the common media, TV, newspapers online and i dont even touch paper nowdays almost. Break the clusterbomb of evil with the good old flower power FFS! I do admit i was poisoned once also by a mediaflow, till i realized it pollutes my happiness and life to the level it starts to control me like a squid with a thousand tentacles. Break those chains! Only inspire to and read up on the good stuff, else is just manipulative. Nobody is born evil, we are just programmed to become that.

So the confederate flag was responsible for the gangbanger shooting in Detroit?? -11 wounded 1 dead
Attackers kill 1, wound 11 at child's birthday party in Detroit ...

    fox8.com/.../attackers-kill-1-wound-11-at-childs-birthday-party-in-...

A shooting at a child's birthday party that left one person dead and 11 wounded was a retaliation shooting, Detroit Police Chief James Craig..

Attackers fired semiautomatic weapons Saturday night at the party attended by about 300 people, police said. Earlier reports said nine people were wounded. This had the potential to be even a deadlier attack than that of the church. IF nobody is talking that means the shooters are black.

Maybe they're bored. Your state and mine have their share of places that don't have a lot to offer. Can you imagine living your whole life in one of those tiny I-95 area SC or NC towns? Yikes! I'd have to become a drug addict. Too much spare time can get people into some bad shit.

I'm not in love with Southern heritage. I love the geography and mild climate. Humans can't take credit for that.

At least the folks in Columbia got their history right and put the square battle flag over a memorial for dead soldiers. I'll bet most renecks have no idea they're flying the Confederate Navy flag, which used to be rare. The CSA never did have much of a navy. I think a lot of modern people have the mindset that all flags should be recangles, not squares.

    http://www.hipforums.com/forum/topic/449062-us-civil-war/page-2
...shows all three CSA national flags, all of which have become rare. The first national flag appears in the movie Gone With The Wind, hanging on the wall at a social gathering.

There was one terrifying moment that Brenda and I had in South Carolina in 1981 while traveling thru on I-95 in a VW Bug. Some white guys in a pickup truck started playing with us, pulling in front and slowing to make us pass, then pulling in front again. This was the most frightening experience of my life because of the history of racial violence in this part of the country. I finally found a well lit service station and pulled off. The truck followed us but left and we later continued without incident. This was just an isolated incident when we left the urban area of South Florida and ventured into the Deep South. Imagine living there under the constant threats of the Ku Klux Klan and other terrorists.

It wasn't until reading an Associated Press news article on Jan. 22, 1996 that I realized that my fears were justified by reality.

"Daniel Vinson Staggs, 22, of Campobello, S.C. ... was charged with first-degree murder in the shooting of Danny Leroy Greer Jr. 34, from Greenville, S.C. Staggs, who is white, and another man allegedly followed Greers Van ... Greer's wife, Mechelle Greer, told police she was driving her family ... when two men in a white pickup truck began staring at her family and pulled beside them. The truck stayed with the family van as Greer speeded up, slowed down and finally pulled into the parking lot, thinking the men would drive by. But the truck followed them into the parking lot and blocked the van. Greer told deputies that her husband got out, as did the driver of the truck. She said she heard her husband say: 'What's your problem?' Then she heard three or four shots, and the truck drove away. Danny Greer is black and his wife is white."

We need to realize that if it remains "black vs. white", we will forever be caught up in a circle of ignorance to our past as a species. We can not move on as a species if the only thing thats changed about us is our technology and population. Humans are all just animals, and the pigment of your skin just shows the evolutionary journey of our ancestors and doesn't define us as people. Because if you define someone by race, it without a doubt will divide them. And like the old saying goes "Together we stand, divided we fall!". Just realize that the real enemy is the idea of division, not the people caught up in it's lies. They are victims too, and they just need our help! JUST GET ALONG DAMNIT!!!
