Hi all, I'm new to the forum... My name's ashley and i live in Skagway, Alaska. I'm doing some research at the moment on women who live in small towns and trying to find women all over the country to interview/survey. There's a few areas I'm focusing on (but i'm in the very very preliminary stages so these are just ideas): women in supervisory roles in small towns (running your own busines, running a local branch of a business, etc); women in local women's organizations (clubs or organizations whose members are solely women); domestic violence/sexual assault/rape in small towns; and other women's issues in small towns. The goal is to look at women's roles in small towns, how in some ways they completely submit to typical gender roles and how in other ways they absolutely challenge and defy them. So... i guess... if you live in a small town and are a woman (or have an opinion on anything I've written) and wouldn't mind being interviewed/surveyed, please send me an email! thanks Ashley No emails out here. Use answers in open forum, or stick around long enough to get PM access.- the management
I'm from Miami but now live in a VERY small town in TN. I notice soooooo many differences! The women here get married VERY young. And they are really (from alot of the girls i know) quite submissive to their husbands "rules". They have kids at a young age as well. I'm 28, never married and don't want to be at this time. But it's so hard to even meet a guy here because all the ones my age are married already. I have also noticed one good thing tho. The men here are very "chivalrous" (sp?) They open doors for you, they stop their cars to let you cross the street....they tip their hats to you in passing. That's all, I guess.
Mountain town of 1100, lived there for three years. There's more personal interaction, people know you, people will help even if you aren't their favorite person. I was a reporter in a town of 600, with coverage of six surrounding towns, population near 5000. Women tended to run the show. One ran the telephone service, another the local non profit. Most businesses were women, even if they conscripted hubby and kids into the staff.
it's 50/50 in america. half get married and pregnant the day after high school graduation, and the other half leave town never to be seen again.
I grew up in a small town in Europe. I was sexual abused by many men, blessing given by my father. I'm not sure the town people knew or not. Abuse happens everywhere and is more widespread than one thinks. For years as a young girl I thought I was the only one being loaned out.
