I am surprised that no one has mentioned Lemon Meringue Pie as it originated in then USA, although by my definition a pie has to have a pastry lid to it so maybe it should be called Lemon Meringue Tart.

It's still a pie though. There are double crust pies (with a lid), single crust pies (no lid), tarts (shorter with scalloped edges and no top) and galette (like a flat topless pie sort of thing that looks more like a pizza).

I had a delicious summer fruit galette today full of peach and cherry and grapes and plums!

I like shepherds pie. I prefer savory over sweet.

delicious is in the taste buds of the beholder. i'm not really big on most sweet foods.
i'm not saying there's anything wrong with anyone else being.
but i am pointing out, it IS a matter of individual perception.

only pie i ever much cared for is pumpkin. also various cheescakes, which to me are more like pies then cakes,
and then meat pies, like pot pies and pasties and quishes and some of the others.

but fruit pies i just never did like. really they're among the very few kinds of edible things that i don't.

When you say something is full of sweetening crap and fruit should just be as they are in nature it sounds much more like you are making a blanket statement that no one should like pie and that those of us who do like a pile of crap. Your wording made it sound less like personal tastes and more like a judgement on pie lovers. That's why I said what I said. *shrug*

Moonglow, cheesecake is not pie! Blueberry in a crumb crust lined with cream cheese is pie!

My, it is awfully sticky in here......i cannot breathe....HELP! :D

No, I was answering in regards to what themnax said above what i said and also to those who don't like pie. I don't like all pies.....only the ones that are bursting with fruit or what have you and the pie crust must be exceptional.......
I am very picky in things that i really do like.

homemade pumpkin pie from your own garden is always the winner. It is sooooooo good. Anything bought in the store does not count. Well any pie bought in a store does not count..

    after that's its raspberry.

I am not fond of grocery store pies, either, and don't eat them. My grocery does have a good bakery, though, and I love their apple turnovers and bagels....the best.....

I'll be visiting my sister in law in Columbia county. Hmm, now if I do go should I get a pie on the way up and share or stop by on the way home?

I hope that I don't have to make a day trip from NYC to get a good fruit pie.
