How can someone meet your expectations and still disappoint you? As for the issue of your happiness being dependent on people conforming to your desires, in this circumstance or others, I'd say that it was never implied it was absolutely dependent on that. One life can become anywhere from a little better or a little worse, to a lot better or a lot worse. I suggest learning to think in terms of degrees rather than absolutes.
Sure, OK, whatever you say champ and yes, that is my being completely dismissive of you because you haven't a clue.....
I mentioned two glaring contradictions in your previous response to me. It was almost like saying the sun is bright after coming out of a cave. You're intellectual dishonesty isn't exactly obscured either. I'd like to see how much more ironic this can get.
The day I take English lessons from a German... much like the day I gave French lessons to a frog. He asked if he could pay, I said, "Paris the thought."
I think the most important step to take to enjoy your online forum experience is to simply take it light heartedly. If your taking it to heart, or too seriously then I don't think online forums are really for you. I don't know who this thread was really intended to dig at, but I feel like some of it relates to me too. So let's use me for example. The serial pest who knows nothing but her own bias opinions. Do I give a shit? Absolutely not. I'm not here to agree or disagree with anyone, but my opinions are just that. My opinions. Now if you disagree with me or whatever then that's your issue. I don't make friends here because I'm too opinionated on touchy subjects that offend people. But again that ain't really my burden to deal with. So I have fun with it and enjoy my forum experience. Do I actually believe a lot of the stuff I post? Not really. But I know what triggers the LOLz, I enjoy it, so I do it. I would say I am a neutral poster because I won't often pick sides with anyone, but then again, you know I really just don't care about any of the topics either. I'll throw in my bias opinion, sure, quite like my post here and you know why BECAUSE I BLOODY FELT LIKE IT. That's why. And I'll continue to LOLz at the ones that shake their heads and stamp their feet at my shenanigans. I never joined HF for religious, philosophy or political discussion. I came here for fun. And I enjoy the hour or two I spend here infrequently during my awake hours.
So if someone feels passionate about a subject he/she is not well versed in, or simply unable to intelligently articulate their ideas - they should keep their mouth shut? Hotwater
All are lunatics, but he who can analyse his delusions is called a philosopher. Ambrose Bierce The mind labels experiences into three categories, pleasant, unpleasant or neutral. If we label is pleasant, we develop attachment, unpleasant and we develop aversion...sometimes even anger and hatred, neutral label means we do not care. I am female...and highly emotional.( I cry as easily as I laugh)...I can only be neutral on things that I really do not give a rat's ass about. Human nature, me thinks.
Same here Except about the latter, although I wouldn't call it being pc (I at least am not concerned about that at all). I care about being civil though, or trying to get my point and/or criticism across without silly namecalling. It has only lead to my posts being taken more seriously than if I would give in to a more, let's say, impressionistic writing style Although i can definitely relate, and also plain simple agree with the basic premise and point of this thread I have to say the empathic posts and opinions can be at least as interesting and fun and constructively add to a thread as just factual posts. Spoken as a truly neutral person: often but not always
No not at all. Usually the folks who "sneak" their bias into the presentation of a topic are very often intelligent and quite articulate. Again, I am referring to those who attempt to skew the impressions the reader may have of the topic by the manner in which they word their presentation. If a person truly feels passionate about a topic, then they are usually rather well versed in it, or I question their passion. As I stated, there is really no excuse for ignorance of a topic in this day and age. If you feel passionate about something, educate yourself about it. Here is a shining example of the manner of presentation I am talking about without pointing any fingers at members here.. http://hallicino.hubpages.com/hub/Medical-Studies-Prove-The-Extensive-Damage-LSD-Does-To-The-Body-Mind In my previous incarnation, I asked this guy to "debate" me regarding his claims. Read the way he presents the facts and you may get the picture. his headings for each research piece presents an entirely different thing than what the research actually does, very often the opposite of it, and by his use of emotionally inflammatory terms and providing the reader with his conclusions, he skews the impression a person gets of the research. The only thing I did in response was to present and explain the research as devoid of personal bias as possible and using no emotionally charged terms. son of a bitch never did come back with his "evidence"........LOL
Something that makes a difference is what you hope to achieve with a post. I'm reminded of my elementary grandkids' studies in Persuasive Writing, Narrative Writing, Descriptive Writing, or Expository Writing. Some posts are purposely written to be persuasive and that's okay. I think some people purposely present persuasive writing in a manner that's pretty heavy-handed, almost in a trollish manner, just to sit back and grin when other's take a big bite out of their bait.
Back to the science thing. The whole quantum entanglement, holographic principle thing, what the fuck is going on The entropy question is the next big thing, why doesnt entropy scale in 3D. Im in my backyard, i can reach over touch, feel, smell the plants....but if all this is all getting played out in 2D and none of it is actually real. Then a whole bunch of those established facts we rely on in science arent true either Why does entropy have nothing to do with volume and mass?
