Omg i loved atari and activision. Plus intelevision. So many cool games. Some favs are Plaque Attack,Skiing, and Boxing.
We were I just have no associations with winter sport games on atari (but I do on first xbox because just that one game).
My uncle used to always play that Olympic game were you had to tap the buttons real quick to run. He was all proud of himself to get up to the last event. One day when he came over I walked in like a boss. Yeah uncle Ron I beat the game. (Drops imaginary Mic and walk back into my bedroom) the most important part was finding one that didn't have those guards above the buttons.
Most games I played on Atari (around age 8 or 10 I think) were like space invaders or tetris. Maybe it was cool at first but most games were made increasingly difficult when you got further merely by changing up the pace. Not much new was happening in those games, except more lasers and quicker enemies. I also recall a racing game (a car consisted of several pixel blocks and the rest of the game were 2 lines that marked the road and one line that was the horizon ). So yeah, it didn't entertain me for long. The first Prince of Persia (1989, must be right in OP's alley ) however... now that got me properly intrigued with games and the computer for the first time.
You missed a couple then. Adventure was the first game to have multiple screens. Indiana Jones took some skill and wasn't repetitive. Pitfall 2 was a bit better than just running from left to right. When I was 10 maybe 11 I got the nes though so I was younger when I had the Atari. I got it when I was 5 and it was my only console I could play until I was 9 when I got intelivision.
Yeps, I was a clueless gamer at age 8 The atari wasn't spend well on me, partly because of the games I had on it and the complete lack of awareness of what else was made for it. Basically I did not got into other games than the original PoP after games in 3D took off.
I will tell you a kick pass repetitive game though. Night stalker. Just talking about it makes me want to dust off the old system and play it again. It wasn't just quicker. You got spiders that you had to shoot 3 times in later levels. Just checked some footage. Ummm it was the intelivision Version that kicked ass. The 2600 one I don't even remember.
I don't understand the connection the TC is trying to make between Atari/Coleco/Amiga and phone/tablet games. There is about a 30 year gap between these generation of gaming system. Many people playing phone tablet games today were not around during the days of Atari/Coleco/Amiga systems.
I assume the connection is that a lot of games for tablet and phone are platform/2D games just like in the good ol' 80's.
Who are these people that the TC is referring to? lol Nevermind, I just realized this is a Dude111 topic...perspicuity is not expected.
