Just a few lines about this matter...........If both powers Russia and America are doing it for the sake of peace, stopping all those many poor people who are trying for a better life in Western Europe...........YES ITS RIGHT!

Assad is now sustained . As to the peace ? ... ISIS , the Caliphate , will need to be confined to a reservation . Or
do you prefer their annihilation ? I think a circle rather than a square would be better to define The Rez , and
with a holy crystal city at the center .

I really would like Obama to earn his Peace Prize .

I've heard that Putin fears a collapse of Syria similar to what happened in Iraq. He believes Assad is holding the country together and if he is forcefully removed by the intervention of foreign powers a vacuum will exist into which ISIL will only grow stronger.

So his statement was that the only who can decide who rules in Syria is the Syrians. I assume he is hoping that Assad will hold things together, and then realize he himself has to go. At that time some form of transition government would take over without the interference of ISIL, but with the influence of Russia.

Assad is currently fighting Al Qaeda in the north, Islamic rebels in the center, and Nationalist rebels in the south.

If ISIL or Al Qaeda wins in Syria, or grows stronger there, it will impact Russia, who is much closer than the U.S.

On the other hand, if the Nationalist win, Russia looses a close ally in Assad and the U.S./Europe gains more influence in the region to the detriment of Russia's designs.

Reports I've seen claim that Russia hit Talbiseh, which is in Al Qaeda territory and Al Qaeda is hostile to ISIL.
They also hit Zaafarana and Ltamenah which are also territories hostile to ISIL.
They may have also hit groups backed by the U.S.

As ISIL hasn't done much fighting against Assad it may be that Putin is trying to take some of the heat off Assad for the reasons stated above and isn't real concerned about ISIL attacking Assad at the moment.

No only Russia has started operations in Syria, their local general in Baghdad walked into the US embassy and told the Americans to back off. In support of Russia, Iran, Iraq, and Hezbullah have started ground attcks on ISIS, inside Syria. They have been very good at killing the ISIS savages who have for months been killing everyone and anyone who they don't like. Putin told the UN that America's operations in Syria were not about killing ISIS, but about changing the Syrian government. By now, everyone in the US government ought to know who has been funding ISIS. There is no need to keep that a secret from the American people, unless some folks would be very embarrassed by the disclosure.

The American Queen is entrapped by 2 Knights and the Rascal Rook . Bishop Kerry - nipping at a
horse's hind hoof like a whispering Pope's little dog of faith . As a feinting pawn , Israeli Yahoo could
advance suddenly , desperately , almost there . Jumping up and down in place , Yahoo threatens to
become the Queen of England .

The Two Towering Rooks of the World King fell long ago .

Stormmountainman, you don't think Russia would be there bombing people if they weren't allies of Assads dictatorship? They're just the other side of the coin. As far as I know it is not even been verified how good they are at killing ISIS savages. Maybe you could share your source?

Well, isn't that up to his countrymen. Seems there are enough solid reasons to get him out of his position (and into prison as well).

Up to Assad's countrymen ? Well, yes , in the next presidential election . Or perhaps they will prefer to have a king
    or queen .

But presently , the Queen of Peace is devoted as a consort to an old and comfortable long-bearded companion who
who has land and children a part of every inhabitable continent .

I don't really think that the Russians are worried about either AQ or IS in terms of territory or geography. If they get too close Putin will send a couple battalions of Spetsnaz and flatten them.

It also feels like the usual war-by-proxy mayhem. The US back one guy and the Russians back another. Then they bet on the outcome.

Or its more like chess rather than checkers. Syria gets worse or Russians really fuck it up. Blame the russians. Russia ends up with another afghanistan, another 30 years before they stick their neck out again.

One of the more western friendly neighbouring countries ends up annexing big chunks of syria. Bingo all the middle eastern bumpkins are confined to an area surrounded by turkey, the new iraq and the new jordan

ISIS, CIA, Mossad, Hezbollah, Al Qaeda, Syrian Rebels, Boko Harem.

Are they not all the same? All sent to fight each other while loan sharks sit back and figure out the profit margins.

Nope, they're not all the same just because they all fight each other.

Agree, they are not. I was referring to them as pawns in the wests' games, not as like minded independent group (s).
