The gun culture is owned by the republicans...The republicans are owned by the NRA lobbyists. The NRA pays for the election of republicans. Republicans are also responsible for closing down all the mental institutions i.e. Ronnie Raygun. The republicans are the PROBLEM NOT THE SOLUTION. The republicans are also trying to destroy education to perpetuate the pandemic of stupidity. The republicans also protect BIG PHARMA profits.
Not so....Clinton, Sanders and Obama are fighting for gun reform, as are most liberals in the democratic party.
I think the NRA has bought the entertainment industry. It's almost impossible to watch a tv show or movie, without a half dozen people being killed by guns. How fucked up is this country, when killing is cool, but sex is immoral? Is it any wonder that Dirty Harry is a republican that talks to empty chairs?
We should have Spielberg digitally edit every gun movie with a walkie-talkie, just like the digital remake of E.T.
I mean honestly, of all the people who watch a spaghetti western, how many get influenced to go out and shoot someone because they saw it on the tv? Censoring sex and violence in the media is something I'd expect more from a republican.
I think rj probably meant that future television needs to shift focus from guns all the time. There are an awful lot of crime shows and dramas that involve gang violence and whatnot right now.
I dont think pointing out how American movies and television have a tendency towards violence is the same as calling for censorship. movies and television shows do have a.lot of gratuitous violence, as do video games. The average mentally stable person who watches a moderate amount of tv or plays the occasional shoot em up game will probably not be affected by this. But if you consider the typical mass shooter who is mentally unstable, already has difficulty empathizing, and probably spends a lot of their time alone playing video games...that just can't be good. And research has shown children who spend a lot of time on their computers, tablets, video games, etc, have a lowered ability to empathize. And that is not taking into account violent tv or video games, which I'm sure just compounds the problem
There are those percentages again. vaccinate a few million--40-50 will die or suffer some repercussion. Work with hundreds of people=several will be assholes. Sell millions of --whatever= thousands of them will be bad. Millions take a dose(you know)=some never return. Millions and millions of students= again--a small % will flip out and harm/kill others. Truly perplexing in a free society. The guns will never be blatantly confiscated. We can emphasize over and over and over again---------PARENTS---keep an eye on your children. Get them help if it seems they need it. And yet--------------- Maybe a thorough psychological program could be instituted , for example, in freshman year and senior year to check on ALL children as they go through school and interact with their fellow students. No--that would cost money. OK--forget that. I give up.
Just a guess, but I would say that violent TV shows and movies are more a symptom of a troubled society than a cause of that troubled society. Producers produce what the public buys. If our society didn't want violent shows they wouldn't be made. I suspect the problem goes much deeper.
The media tried to paint Chris Mercer white in order to try and fuel a race war. Nevermind he's biracial. Before and after photoshop:
As is sex and murder and crime. All have been going on for generations. The installation of the 24/7 media circus has influenced our decisions to reflect their agenda. We are at a time now where to blame everything on the 'other guy' is the norm and if you don't, you are classed as a bigot, racist, Rep or homophob. rjs' and a few others hatred of the Rep party is well versed, but they along with dems, independent, etc etc are all to blame. Dems and Rep are all in the pockets of Pharma, NRA, Banks, Insurance co. No one party is to blame. They all are, hell we all are.
More right wing propaganda, CNN denies the rumor, no links, sources or airing of the photo were ever listed on any reporting conservative site. Snopes backs CNN up.
We are all desensitized to anything. Sex, war, murder, crime. How often do we hear this stuff on the tv or radio or read it on the net. What happens afterwards? We just continue on our daily lives. None or very little emotion to the situation. The information age has ruined our emotional response to anything and the Government of the day has ok'ed the 'blame others' routine For an in your face tv show that depicts how society/technology and Gov't responds to these types of issues is 'Black Mirror'
Nice source. I thought by now everyone on HF knew that the Snopes detective agency was about as valid as a supermarket tabloid. Even Infowars and Wikipedia are more credible. http://www.hipforums.com/forum/topic/463168-snopescom-is-fallible/ Even if CNN is innocent this time, it's not like they haven't tried to pull this shit in the past by painting a brown George Zimmerman white. Or darken OJ Simpson's mugshots for his murder trial 20 years ago (back when black was the more sinister color).
So I suppose you have a more reliable source for the photos authenticity? I noticed you just went with the first post you saw on that photo from some source you didn't even quote. At least I take the time to check various sources before I post. Snopes was not the only source I checked, just one of the more coherent. I cite my sources so that anyone can check their validity and my integrity, if I'm wrong on this one prove it and I'll admit my mistake. And I don't buy you trying to shift the whole thing over to some other supposed episode involving CNN.
It looks like you were correct in that I could not find a legitimate source on CNN fixing photos this time around. Yet it appears that the LA Times called the shooter a white supremacist based on zero evidence, so I would say my claims that the media is provoking a race war is still valid. I guess since this is still a very new story, there are lots of rumors that often emerge that need to be taken care of early on. The gunman was described Friday as a “hate-filled” individual with anti-religion and white supremacist leanings who had long struggled with mental health issues, law enforcement sources said. http://www.latimes.com/nation/la-na-oregon-shooting-20151002-story.html
That LA Times story is completely bogus when it came to white supremacy; If anything the shooter embraced his black militancy Hotwater
