Being in the upstate, we were grateful to have avoided the deluge. Our basement didn't even flood and it has many times in years past.

Those pictures are surreal. That so many people lost relatively everything is unreal.

Another unreal thing to me is how people intentionally drove around barriers put up on roads! ...what in the world did they think they were going to find on the other side if not a washed out or flooded road or bridge..

The safest place for any (large) ship during a Hurricane or tropical storm, is out at sea. They probably tried to make it out before it hit.

Obviously it isn't the safest place for the crew....oh, the ship didn't make it either.

I was reading another problem with barriers was that people would move them so they could go loot flooded areas and not place them back, then innocent people would come along and the barriers wouldn't be there

It is pretty amazing more lives were not lost

That looks wild. It was strange how little publicity this got, even though it was clear that the flooding would probably happen, it was all overshadowed by the Hurricane Joaquin reports.

We was lucky. But saturday after the storm, we got another 4-5" of rain. Had over 100 roads shut back down in just lexington county again.
