Is anyone else sick at the moment? I woke up a few days ago with a scratchy throat, which has since progressed to some nasal congestion and an overall "blah" feeling. I took about 8 grams of vitamin C last night and upon coming home from work this morning, before going to bed. I think it helped a little, but I still don't feel great. I got pretty drunk Sunday night, which I think wore me down a bit and compromised my immunity. I rarely get sick, so when I do it really sucks because I hate not feeling at my optimum and not being able to give my all at the gym. I also am not able to kiss or make out with my girlfriend, which is perhaps what pisses me off most of all. If you had the choice of having a stomach which is horrible but only lasts 24 hours, or a mild cold which isn't that bad but leaves you feeling crappy for about a week, which would you choose? I personally would rather have the stomach bug. I hate throwing up, but it's still preferable to feeling like shit for a week.
I honestly can't remember the last time I had a stomach bug, but my memories of them are terrible. Your question is so hard to answer! Depends on what symptoms of a cold I have.
I usually still go to work when im sick like that Time drags when you are sick like that and cant do much
Fuck yeah! It especially sucks where I work because they have the heat cranked up so high and the air is so fucking dry and nasty. On top of that, I have to move around a lot. I was feeling like absolute dogshit at work last night.
rare I get the virus going around and usually I beat it pretty quick, but MS beats me all the time. most likely a strong immune system cause MS is basically attacking the body with its immune system. i had the poops the other week, but i dont get the sniffles and cold very much at all.
My job is pretty intense at times, and if I don't feel well and am not at 100%, people could get hurt. Hate working while sick :dizzy2:.
I just had surgery on my ingrowing toenails and also have something wrong with my stomach, possibly appendicitis. Feel like absolute shit.
I would rather have a cold than a virus, a stomach virus is the worst, even if they are generally short lived. You should make a chicken noodle soup with a homemade bone broth, throw some raw garlic in your bowl instead of cooking it so you don't cook all the antiviral good stuff out, and add lots of pepper to clear out your sinuses. I do this everytime I get a cold and I'm usually over the worst of it in 3 days or so
Cut and stack firewood... Seriously! I was out there this past summer doing just that with flu/pneumonia and it kicked that bug in the ass. Get some Zinc along with the Vitamin C too...
Zinc is better than C. Works far more efficiently. However, you really need to get it in at the earliest sign of illness. I take 50mg/day when I'm fine. If I remember. When I'm sick, I take 300mg the first day, and 100mg on day two, and again on day three if there is a day three. There is generally not a day four. Get well soon.
I'm an old hand at curing cold ailments because I have kids. The absolute best thing you can do(aside from zinc and vitamin c) is purchase a decent sized crock pot and a bottle of liquid vicks vaporizer stuff. Cool mist vaporizers don't do crap because the steam needs to be warm and running all the time you're home. They changed them to cool vapor for children's safety so they didn't get burned which made them less effective. Think about how much better you breathe when you've just gotten out of a warm shower. Warm your room up a little bit, run an open crock pot full of water and vicks vapo-steam stuff and use vicks vaporub all over your neck and under your nose. It's awful, but it works like a charm. If you have an ear infection (even one that goes from your ear into your jaw line), buy a clove of garlic and a bottle of olive oil. It clears it up better than any antibiotic I swear. Steep the crushed garlic cloves in some of the olive oil in a pan on the stove for a little while-turn it off and let it cool completely. Get a dropper and drop a few drops into your ear and stuff some cotton from a cotton ball into your ear. Lay with that ear up so the liquid stays in for a little while, repeat when you go to bed for the night. You'll feel relief almost immediately from the pain, and will be cured in two days. Don't believe me? Look it up online. That's what we do and it works extremely well. The antibacterial properties of the olive oil and garlic change the ph in your eardrum.
glad you posted this. there's a nasty bug going around work and i haven't gotten it yet, so this thread made me think to pop a couple extra vitamin Cs just now. hopefully i can get by without catching whatever it is that everyone else has. as for the "would you rather" question, i would probably need more information. i'm generally a pretty big believer in getting bad things over with rather than dragging it out, so my first thought would be the 24 hour bug. but on the other hand, i really don't have time to take an entire day off right now, so if the 24 hour thing isn't something i could at least minimally function through, i would have to take the week long cold. actually, a week long cold would be pretty good for me. i don't get a lot of colds normally, but when i do they generally last at least 2 weeks.
You are building immunity to things that are probably far nastier. Rejoice, and yeah it sucks. The illness you are dealing with at the moment is always the worst, until the next one. Fluids, rest, healthy food and time.
I decided to do some lifting tonight despite not feeling that great. It actually made me feel a lot better, so maybe there is some merit to what Ty was talking about regarding firewood.
I've been sick for like a week and a half now. Sounds similar to what I have. Sore/scratchy throat, headache off and on, lot of mucus production. I don't really feel bad, but I do feel like sleeping a lot. Woke up today with a coughing fit and the other day almost choked on whatever my body's rejecting Stay alive man!
