Yeah, visually, the dinosaurs are impressive but they look like they belong in one of those TV programs they give on National Geographic or something. You know, the ones where they have all these CG dinosaurs and they're giving you information about each one such as, what they're hunting, what they're eating, if they're carnivores or herbivores, protecting their young, the kind of show you'd watch as a kid because hey, dinosaurs! These kinds of CG animation don't quite fit in any Jurassic Park sequel as visually appealing as they are.
20+ years down the line even. It felt like some of the movements of the dinosaurs were given a very defined computerized 'sharpness' to them, perhaps to emphasize qualities such as speed and agility, which carried over into the background itself as well at times. There seemed more of a surreal type quality about the dinosaurs, compared to the original, which I agree, felt less 'real' in some sense. For Jurassic Park, I found it more convincing in producing a feeling like there were two completely different eras of life butting heads, Jurassic World gave me more of a Science run amok type vibe.
You know, even the aliens in Aliens looked more realistic in comparison to a lot of movies with creatures. Even the original Alien was pretty good. Alien 3 graphics were terrible. But that's just different directors too lol. Like, some muppet thinks oh hey that's a good series I'll just go along with it, and butchers everything. Alien resurrection was alright. JP 3 even, with the big nasty dinosaur, I remember that didn't look all that great either. Raptors seem to be the best IMO.
I was thinking of that series as another example, that was a significant step back in special effects, I didn't feel quite that level of regression with Jurassic World.
No not at all. I actually still hold Terminator 2 in high regards with special effects. I think the newer movies are no where near as good, almost putting too much emphasis into making it look too real, or fancy and it's just not working for me anyway. Jaws was another example, the last two were just terrible in every way lol. And to some extends, even The Walking Dead is starting to lack in that department. The first episode I thought was awesome and that half eaten thing crawling on the ground, man she freaks me the fuck out. but the longer the series goes it's like oh just throw some blood on 'em, that'll do. I also sense that I can see that it's shot in a studio at times and in the first few episodes or seasons even, it just never felt like that.
Starship Troopers is another one, that was 20 years ago, I think the creature effects in that are better than a lot of CGI movies today. The gap between Troopers and Jurassic World is about 20 years, would have thought effects would be a lot better nowadays. not all that impressed with JW
This movie is really beautiful! Sometimes I've noticed strange things happening with the dinosaur's height, but everything else was great as for me.
I gotta admit I enjoyed this movie too, I watched the 3D-version in the cinema. The whole style and also its humour reminded me of the very first Jurassic Park from 1993 (although the special effects are not comparable to this one of course). One won’t certainly regret watching it I believe.
