no...im self employed and just getting by ...barely partially by choice (only working when i want to)....and partially due to health (sometimes not able to do anything) .
I am retired so I just take it slow and easy, play music with a band for fun. Travel whenever I get the chance.
Mad respect. I'd love to work for myself, but have no clue what I'd do. I wish you much luck and meant no disrespect with my earlier comment.
i'd strongly suggest staying away from self employment the government takes money away from you for unemployment insurance but you can NEVER collect as a self employed person so basically you struggle to stay afloat and they steal some money to give to the people who dont want to work....and if you get sick you're fucked royally
I am a full time student. I have never been employeed believe it or not. I have done a lot of vounteering since I was young. Currently I vounteer about 8-10 hours per week at an adult ambulatory clinc. Essentially my duties include making appointment reminder calls, assisting patients in registering for their appointment, directing patients to their appointments, and encouraging patients participating in fitness programs. Other then that I do lots of studying, reading, and playing video games lol
This is a really fascinating question, cool post! As of right now, I'm working on getting my GED and should be finished in about two months, then I plan to attend the Animal Behavior Institute to get a PHD in animal-assisted therapy with a BA in psychology. The 10 year plan is to open up Iowa's first therapeutic animal sanctuary. I want to rescue, rehabilitate, and retrain animals who haven't had the best luck (abuse, neglect, special-needs, unwanted, etc) and retrain them as therapy animals to be utilized in the treatment of individuals facing obstacles such as physical/mental disabilities and illnesses, homelessness, veterans/PTSD/injuries, eating disorders, depression, addiction, self-injury, autism, etc etc etc. My hope is that humans will help animals, and animals will help people, and it will foster peace, empathy, understanding, compassion, and healing for both humans and animals. I work about 20 hours a week as a farm-hand. I raise about 160 show chickens, train a very unruly horse, and care for 4 lovely goats. I typically work 7-8:30 in the morning doing my morning care routine, go to classes from 9-2, work 2:30-6. I love my job, I work alone, it's physically demanding but rewarding. I wouldn't suggest it as a full-time career to live off of unless you're in college or something. I also work construction as needed, as well as being a part-time nanny for an army family next door and pet-sit whenever people need it.
Well...truth be told - I work in an hospital as caregiver...so...I have been the "insurance policy" of thousands and thousands of people for a lot of years...
I have a friend who ran a baking/catering business out of her home for one year and got so fucked over by taxes that it almost bankrupted her. I've heard about how the little guy gets screwed. That's why I would never do it unless I could put my heart and soul into what I was doing. Hence why I haven't made any moves for it. Haven't really found my passion.
Since last time I replied to this, I've changed career courses. I now own a company which profits from retail arbitrage, essentially creating a secondary market all of my own. basically i just sit around all day and collect paychecks and paint sunsets and shit.
I'm a retired artist/musician. I have a small farm.. so I guess that means I'm not really retired because there's a lot of work on a farm. I'm also doing consult work online these days... which is fun. I wish someone would pay me to travel.
You should look into like possible bar work or where you can travel and work and then you get paid. a lot of my friends do this and many of them come to work at the place I work at. They get free accommodation, food and drink and then they just have to work behind the bar or take people where they want to go etc. it's a cool deal.
I bleed. Nah. I work in an office for a home health care company for old folks. I'm in accounts receivable. I also teach violin, around 16 students. In addition, I play in 4 professional regional orchestras and I play in a lot of weddings and stuff. I'm busy.
