Much to my surprise some posts on here seem to believe the old stories of bleeding brains and the like. "My friend took mushrooms once and now he has all these problems". Well your friend is probably one of the small minority who had pre-existing psychological conditions. Don't believe any of that DARE nonsense. Times are changing and more and more studies are being done on Psilocybin and the brain. Anecdotally I can tell you many stories that back these findings up. But until now it's been the bluster of a stoner. http://reset.me/study/study-psilocybin-mushrooms-stimulate-growth-of-new-brain-cells/
My son has told me of studies that show that mushrooms (or rather the psilocybin...HOW in the world do you spell that?) are shown to stop migraine headaches and cluster headaches. I also need some new brain cells. Where can I sign up?
Recently had a bad experience with Edible (THC) and headaches. I had a headache already but when my edible kicked in everything got so much worse. I couldn't do much but close my eyes. I had to turn off the TV and go to bed. It was close to bedtime anyway... But anyway, I've had amphetamines cure a hangover before. Don't know if that counts. By the way I don't recommend that anyone try to cure their headache with anything other than Excedrin, which I have found usually works. P.S. My headache was still there when I woke up!
I saw this research a few years ago but it's good that sites keep relaying this info. IIRC most the cell growth is promoted in lower doses of psilocybin and I think most of it has been performed on rodents, which is always tentative when applying to humans. Yes, that is accurate.
Not to downplay the intent of this thread but none of the cells in your body are the same cells that were there when you were a child... We are constantly "growing new cells". I still want some shrooms... I need new brain cells.
Also I think it's good to have a balanced perspective with these things. As the op pointed out, information like this can hopefully help dispel urban myths surrounding psychedelics, such as mushrooms cause brain hemorrhaging but at the same time I don't think such a study suggests that everyone just start munching Psilocybin Mushrooms on a whim. Mushrooms are a fascinating, yet powerfully mind altering substance, that may not be appropriate for everyone. Although, I want some shrooms too.
Yeah the body's always replicating old cells but I think the article is referring to creating new, original cells.
