Why do people like Morrowind so much? I've never played it, but so many talk about it and it still play it. I've only played oblivion and skyrim from those series but I adore them.

I loved it because it gave that really great open world experience with lots of sidequests and random shit and lots and lots of stuff to discover in a way no other game did before. The story, the island with it's own creatures and culture and history. The native wizards (dark elfs) and their towers that you couldn't enter without gravity defying magic, the mystery of the disappeared dwarfs, their ruins, all that lore and stuff that made Skyrim awesome makes Morrowind just as awesome in it's own way.
For fanatic gamers the main quest in Morrowind also appears to be far more challenging and exciting than that of Skyrim. I rarely hear someone who actually finished Morrowind. It's literally one of the most epic games ever made in that regard alone already :p
Now one of those predecessors, like Daggerfell, may be equally impressive in that way but Morrowind really set new boundaries graphicwise. Daggerfell is all pixels but Morrowind is one of those 3d games where you really find yourself looking at the sky, stars and clouds and enjoying the scenery and stuff. You know, like now has become common in all those great looking adventure/rpg games :)

I as well find it impressive though how many people still seem to be playing it! :D

^ this is a good summary. for the record, and i hope i don't jinx myself by saying it, but i'm almost done with the main quest for the first time ever.

also, the level of character customization is great. oblivion lost a lot of it, and skyrim lost so much that you're basically just choosing between one of three possible character types. but in morrowind you could play as anything. and since enemies aren't leveled, you could make a really strangely skilled character and still eventually be able to do whatever you want. further on the customization subject, you could also create basically any spell or weapon or enchantment that you could imagine. there is practically no limit, since there were ways to supplement your skills and attributes into the thousands if needed to craft whatever item or cast whatever spell, etc.

another thing i particularly like about it is the fact that 99% of people are unique and you can stumble upon actual quests out in the wild. so it makes exploration a lot more rewarding. instead of walking through endless woods to find a generic cave filled with guys named "bandit," you walk through woods, find a naked nord that was cursed by a witch, go find her and decide whose side to take, then move on, find a cave that is inhabited by 4 people with names and notes scattered about that explain why they are in the cave, and kill them for their unique weapons.

I miss Skyrim now. Skyrim speaks to me a touch more probably because of the Norse influences. I spent a lot more time on oblivion though. I really loved Oblivion and the landscape. Skyrim is a touch too dark and cold for me, though it's what I love, but the feeling of Oblivion was much warmer.

I know right! Same here. I love Morrowind's setting but really, Skyrim did everything right settingwise for me. Trolls, snowy mountains, forests, giants (with mammoths!), nordic lore. Nothing suits me better :p

LOL at the idea that you "BEAT" a Bethesda game.....LOL

you may complete a story/quest line, and play through start to finish, but I've never thought of my having "beat the game".

being relatively open ended with myriad character paths and persona's that the games can accommodate put's them out of the category of "beatable" games, IMHO.

I mentioned before that to alleviate boredom and repetition in RPG's I always pick a path/character build and restrict myself to certain "flaws" and perks.

My Arena character could only use two-handed weapons.
Daggerfall was the best in this respect because the "give and take" of perks vs penalties was built into the character generation. My character was a Dark Battle Mage who could regenerate health and mana in darkness, but could only use magic in darkness and took damage from sunlight and holy places. It made a HUGE impact on gameplay.
My Morrowind guy was essentially a knight, so ya know, he did knight stuff and gear only.
My Oblivion guy could only use robes, enchanted daggers, and potions. With all my jewelry on my alchemy skill was like 160%, I made some incredible potions that would last 2-3 hours of real time. ;)
My Skyrim character is focused on stealth, archery and enchanting. She is deadly beyond compare at a distance, but within melee range I pretty much end up a pile of goo.

Never got into Fallout. I have them except for #4, just never really grabbed me.

well, gotta go, dog farted, must evacuate the room!!!!!!!!!![IMG]

I haven't even gotten past the first side quest that sprouts off of the first mission of the storyline... lol? If anyone could understand all that? :D

It's completely ridiculous trying to follow the main quest in the way the journal is set up on Xbox. SO much information you have to sift through. You nailed it about the atmosphere of the game and how groundbreaking it was in terms of graphics and such. I don't think I stuck to the storyline the first time I played the game! I don't know if I knew there WAS a main storyline! I just got lost, leveled up, did a bunch of side quests and had a blast after finding the levitate and jump spells.

And the newer mods are limited. Textures need to be re-sized, Bloodmoon and Tribunal dependencies need to be manually removed from each mod via hex editor, and you have to change the drive letters within a file to switch where it reads cached info. After all that, put it where it needs to be, cross your fingers and hope it works. And if it does work, hope it doesn't randomly crash the game :D

That's an interesting thought on saved games. My mind tunes out the whole 'renaming the save' bit when I do think about saving the game. Which, by then it's usually too late and it already crashed lol! It only autosaves when you sleep, which makes it a bit tedious. Just name my saves to current and backup or something... neat :)

    Final Fantasy 7 ps4 release.

I never got to play it when it was on PS1. But it's so old it does not use the full tv screen. Not enough pixels I guess so my big screen goes to waste.

I'm a superslow gamer, but yeah once you leave the treasure hunting behind and get in the flow of the action you can fly to the chapters :D But when I'm at a scene like the market (and that museum) I usually take my time taking the details in. I think they're worth the money, after all it's 3 games, not 1. And I enjoy the crap out of them (even the first one).
I did notice that if you buy it online now it's already €30! But with these games it doesn't bother me that I happen to have spend 20 euros more on it. Can be frustrating though! Usually if you notice it like 2 days later you could have gotten it for 15 euros less :p

Do you still get 'new' games for the ps1 or are you replaying when you return to that console?

I'm the same with the first xbox. But I doubt I'll play those games. I'll sooner go back to my 360 for which I still have some good stuff I look forward to... AC Rogue for instance :p (not the greatest AC game but entertaining if you played all the others in the series. I probably play it in its entirely before AC: Unity and Syndicate but I already got Syndicate when I got my console and it is fun so who knows :p) and I will buy Fallout 3!

Most PS1 games are extremely difficult to return to, the visuals are so primitive. However there is something very charming about the visuals in RPG's in that era.I am enjoying Parasite Eve very much. The dialog is so terrible, but it makes me laugh.

Outdated visuals bother me too... we're getting terribly spoiled graphics wise :p :D With those early 2d rpg's you really had to use more imagination to make the story and game come alive. But I didn't really play those games at that time so I have a hard time getting into them if I would try now. That's why I for example never seriously tried a zelda game older than Ocarina of time (only Zelda game I owned and finished). I wish I could share in the nostalgic sentiment (like I can with Ocarina :)) but I guess I just was too late and now I can't be bothered with those legendary older ones.

I do recall the fascination I had for Fallout 2 (must have been 2) but somehow I didn't got that game myself and forgot about it... When I think about PS1 I think about Mortal kombat, Street fighter (and possibly Tekken?) :p But I only played pc games and N64 back then. And already mainly 3d.
