I would say PBS used to be a great channel. It still has some good programming, but it's also full of bullshit and spin. The PBS news hour will feed you more spin on race issues than any other news program
Public funded Public TV started in Pittsburgh after a battle between a lawyer for Pittsburgh Plate Glass and Pittsburgh based Westinghouse Corporation over limited operating licenses for new TV stations. Westinghouse finally gave in and donated a tower it had built for its own station. WQED 13 signed on on April1, 1954. QED stands for "quod erat demonstrandum (what had to be proved or what was to be demonstrated)" ~1 WQED was the leading supplier of programming for Public TV through the 70's and 80's producing Mr. Roger's Neighborhood, which started in 1953* as The Children's Corner, and the National Geographic Specials of that era. *I know the dates don't match.
So who won the debate? I didn't get to see it so I'd at least rather get some opinions from people here before the media tells me who they think won.
Sanders, but Hillary did a little better this time. She seemed calmer and more in control of herself. Bernie had obviously been rehearsing his foreign policy answers since last time. Much better prepared on that topic. She tried to hug Obama tighter than ever, but he completely blew that up; seriously smoked her a couple of times. On the medical issue, I wish he would point out regularly that she used to push for a single payer plan until Obama went in another direction.
Yes, hillary was calm and cool as a cucumber......pretty much.....and bernie waivered with emotions at times....As far as debating skills go, Hillary probably won this debate.....
Hillary is a master at dominating the clock, her answers are long and involved allowing her to interject many points making it hard to reply to her answers in the short time allocated in a debate format. To me it seemed the moderators gave her much more opportunities than they did to Bernie, although some of that was due to Bernie's habit of getting to the point with short direct answers. To follow Bernie's reasoning you have to know a bit about history and how the system operates...such as his references to Kissinger, FDR, and historic tax rates in the U.S. It seemed the audience response was louder for Hillary and I believe Hillary went negative, especially near the end. She is trying to wrap herself in Obama's accomplishments and at the same time unjustly accusing Bernie of claiming that Obama is a weak president. What Bernie has said is that: Note that he said he thinks the American public may feel that he has been weak in his dealings with the Republicans, Bernie did not say he feels that Obama is a weak President. Bernie replied that Obama has accomplished much but he does have disagreements with him, as is proper for anyone to disagree with anyone else. Hillary masterfully interjected this cut on Bernie at the end of the debate leaving him no time to explain his statements. Overall I think Hillary is getting a little desperate and is starting to attack Bernie with half truths and complicated innuendos which require him to explain his actions in detail. When he does so, most of her jabs seem to disappear in the light of understanding why he voted a certain way, or why he took certain actions. The question is will the public buy her simple lines of attack or will they understand Bernie's explanations of his rationale.
I agree. I think Hillary is a master manipulator. If we are observing the debate as a game, she trumped Bernie, and he lost his focus in that he had to respond. In no way did I think Hillary would be the better candidate.... She is more shrewd. Bernie responded that one of them voted for Obama for second term before making his closing statements. It seems no one heard that in listening to the after show and how everyone dissects every word that told me that. That was a winning point in excellent retort to how she was trying to make him seem.... I hope America sees through it all.
That was that only one of them voted for Obama in second term. I left out the important word only before. A look came over Hilary's face right after that like she was angry!
Yeah..you are right, but if you are running against him, are you running for him? Same difference, really.....that is how my mind processed it.
On the subject of President Obama...i too do think he did an excellent job with the legacy he had to work with. I would not want the job. No one can please everyone.....and decisions made are always going to anger someone..... The only place where i felt disappointment in his Presidency is when I heard he gave the ok for oil drilling off of Alaska...I am hoping I heard that wrong, too...
The online commentary I've read today has been overwhelmingly supportive of Sanders with regard to the last debate (as has been the case with every debate so far) and the only poll I've seen so far had nearly 70k votes with Bernie-81% HC-19%....which is about right in line with most other post-debate polls so far....regardless of who the media calls the "winner".
I read a lot of pro Hillary commentary last night, and several people talking about taking a shot every time bernie says "Wall Street" or "establishment," and a lot of people calling him a one trick pony. To which my response, if I ever spoke up in the comment section but I don't as a general rule, would have been that he only sounds redundant because he never changes his position and his main focus is the economy and the working and middle class. Not sure why this is considered a bad thing by some. I'm also concerned over what seems to be a lot of confusion regarding his foreign policy. Many people say this is his biggest weakness. To me, his foreign policy is simple - don't police the world, don't instigate wars for profit, don't get involved period as a lone wolf, instead pursue international cooperation.
So I know this makes me a really bad feminist and I'm sorry but I can't resist - I'm watching the debate now and all I can think is, goddamnit Hillary needs a stylist. She is dressed like a little Japanese lady. I'm really not being a traitor to my gender, I have said way worse about trump's appearance.
She says it just after the 2 minute mark....basically....."We don't want party officials and elected office holders running against grassroot efforts so we keep the delegates separate". That's pretty clear....we want to make sure we can over-ride grassroot efforts if we need to. I registered as a Democrat so I could caucus in Iowa for Obama in 2008. I caucused for Bernie this year. My job as a registered Democrat is over. Fuck this party and their crooked "officials". I'm out. I'm going back to being an independent.
I forgot to mention.....the DNC changed the rules again to help HC raise more lobbyist money because she is getting her butt kicked at fundraising. They know Bernie won't take the corporate money so they basically took the lid off the jar and let HC load up. They can think we are dumb but they are just sinking their own party and chances in the general election.
