that is making the huge assumption that "good" rap music actually exists, a point that has been hotly contested since rap music's inception.

It has only be contested by people who seem biased about rap as a whole in the first place. There's some great rap music, even if it is only 1% of all. And when you discover it you stll might not like it (taste, musical preferences, subjective ;)) :p

There is some really great rap music. I hate when people write off an entire genre just because it isn't to their personal taste. I mean, I don't care for metal at all but I can at least respect the talented metal bands out there.

I appreciate rap for the same reason I appreciate poetry. Plus I like dem beats

I argree, Mel. I don't listen to rap music regularly, but I've been blown away by some of the poetic talent of certain rappers, especially when they are freestyling!

according to urban dictionary, hamboning means either slapping the body to make music, or having sex with fat women

The last rap that I liked was "big poppa", though I admit that I don't listen to very much

I was referring to the first definition, but the second might work too lol!

It was a phrase a friend of mine pulled from Adventure Time, I believe. You can use the action to potentially fend off unarmed assailants. There's a 58% chance they'll just think you're cray cray and walk away.

It happened with most new genres in the 20th century, particularly those that ushered in a new generation and defied conventionality.

With that, there also seems to be a mundaneness to "Rap' music. All seem to pertain to the same ideas while incorporating much the same beats as all the others.

Eminem, in the beginning, bought more emotion into his songs in regards to his life and how it just plain sucked, albeit with the relative same melody in each song; while others 'artists' promote and glorify that particular lifestyle.

As someone posted, music in general is running out of ideas and like Hollywood, rehashes all the popular stuff in to this era.

Exactly. I may not like country music, but I've matured to the point where I no longer say "all country music sucks." I have actually 2 or 3 country songs to be rather enjoyable much to my own surprise. I think there are good and bad songwriters within every genre, yet often times it's the bad ones that muddy up the entire reputation for that particular music genre. Rap music gets a lot of scorn for it being really shitty because all the crap rap gets more spotlight attention.
