It is not a harness for his body. It is totally on his head and when he pulls forward it forces his head back and around to look back at you for direction. Then you tell him whatever it is you want him to do. If he is walking at your side and not pulling he does not even know he has it on.

Living in the country, when I used to walk my Jack, I wanted him to walk ahead of me...so as he would encounter any snakes and such before me. :-O

I would say that the vast majority of people in the whole wide world want their dog to walk beside them. That is just another thing that makes me different that most. lol But I understand about not wanting a dog to pull you over/forward like Specs described.

I guess I'd want the dog in front just enough, but not so much as to pull me over. lol

yeah, I'm strange AND picky. :D

Well, if I was in the country I would want to have my dog off leash and come back when called. When we went to the parks around here they generally were off leash. But I live in a city and when walking on sidewalks I wanted him to walk beside me. Generally Sunny did that but after my operation I wanted to be sure I wouldn't fall. I only used the Gentle Leader for a month or two until I felt better about my walking. I am only five foot 2 inches and Sunny was a 60 lb dog.

if you are not a fan of stories that are TMI then skip this one.
I had some stuff to do across the bay when i got there i figured if i got done in time i could use that extra groupon i had for the sensory deprivation tank (float tank).
(for those that dont know its a salt filled tank thats heated to the bodys temperature, the salt makes you float and the temp keeps the water from the normal cooling off effect on your skin)
for lunch i stopped by wendys. they have that new ghost pepper sandwich and fries. maybe not the best choice being away from home but it was a damn tasty sandwich.
i finished my chores and checked to see if the float tank had any open times that i could make before heading home. they did so i headed over.
that is when the peppers kicked in. i stopped at the next rest area i saw and filled the bowl 4 times.
this of course was no ordinary shit though, it was a ghost pepper infused one. extra soft and squishy. and of course like i said i was at a rest stop so they dont have the good paper, in fact that shit is absolute shit. that paper feels like its got bark in it. and i had to wipe and wipe because of the pudding like shit i had.
well you wipe enough times with sandpaper and eventually it will cut the skin. there was a couple drops of blood but i was happy to wipe and see no more brown.
i head to the spa and take a shower before getting in the tank. they provide soap and shampoo and all that stuff. the body wash they had was the kind with a slight pumice feel. sure enough when i cleaned my backside it hurt a tiny bit. no big deal but that had me worried....i finish the shower and get in the tank and it is just like i thought. the salt from the tank was a real pain in my ass. luckily the pain faded. as i floated there though some salt got in my eye. they have a spray bottle in there so you can wash away any salt that gets in your eyes. so i sit up and clean my eyes out. i lean over to put the bottle back on the hook and when i did my cheeks spread and it was the pain in the ass part 2.
now they give you some petroleum jelly to put on any scrapes you may have and it works in keeping the salt from getting in. the problem was i had no intention on putting petroleum jelly on my anus, and even if i would have done it i am not sure i could find the exact spot that needed it. i would have just been sitting there rubbing my jelly filled finger up and down my brown hole wasting my hour that i should have been relaxing.
anyway it was pretty cool, i will tell the story about the rest of the float some other time.

I like when the dogs lead on walks too. :) I think it's hard to keep a GSD at your side with their energy and drive. They don't want to be at your side, they wanna explore. :)

oh, that is funny.....3 of my 4 pugs just want to stop and smell the ground forever after every few feet these days, and hey, let's get a move on it...we have to cover 5 miles between all of you....not all at the same time....It is maddening...... :D

and now out the door I go, to be aggravated some more..... :D

and not to mention, Sullivan, the golden, who is always pulling me back as we leave where Stan is stationed, so I can trade off dogs after every mile or so.....He pulled my arm out. Sullivan did it...Bingo....I just figured it out....backwards he wants to go until we start heading back to point of trade offs.....

Julie burns out after 20mins or so and just hangs out on my side.. therefore most working dogs, police are just tired of walking and stay by the side of the handler.. while they may have a little more discipline and training, it really boils down to them being tired. Besides Ive seen many a drug dog, police dog pulling the handler..

I don't stop anymore for sniffs. A million trees and poles and if I stop for each one I don't even get my exercise and that's really it for me, I'm walking for myself and not the dog he just comes with. :) so yeah, the moment he sniffs I walk past and then I get my left knee and I push it into the lead and it drags him back forward, the he scurries off to the next tree. I'll start taking him to a spot I know nobody goes so we have off lead time but I'm afraid he'll bolt after a deer or wolf and then I'll lose him. My biggest fear.

My lady is still very upset with him. :D

Our most recent family dog that passes, Beau, I could ride with him on lead on my bike. And he was good too he'd just run beside me. Takes getting used to though, bike always steers to the left. :D

When we did show training with our boy now, we had like a system where this noose would sit from a clip that bolted to the bike and then you could use your collar in the noose and the dog was attached to your bike. Problem was if you needed to, there was no quick release to take off the collar in case your dog went for a run, you'd just have to enjoy the ride. We only did this so he'd learn to trot/gate properly and at 8km/h he was trotting perfectly.

But now he has his thing abouts bikes, he hates them. Always needs to have a go at them. With the pinch collar I'm going to get miss to ride past him and when he goes he's going to get a good yank until he learns that a) he won't get to the bike. b) the bike rider is minding their own business and c) it's going to hurt when he does want to lash out.
