Is this your vice? I've been wanting to make a thread asking people what their vice(s) is, but I don't want to appear as if I'm glorifying being harmful to oneself. Anyways, I don't drink. Nor do I do drugs. My dad was a huge drinker, drug dealer/addict, so you know how the story goes for the children of such a parent. Also, I've been sheltered quite well, so I never got to do such things. Don't even know people who drink or do drugs. However, I do have one vice, and that is cutting. Vices in general, no matter what it is, is about control. That's half the fun of it. Knowing your limit, testing your limit, etc. Basically, you know you feel like a badass when you walk out of the bar only having two drinks. You feel strong, like you have a lot of wellpower.
I would not enjoy that feeling better than walking out of the bar properly intoxicated. But yeah, I don't see my drinking as a vice happily. I drink not enough to have serious concerns about controlling it or not. Which is probably why the key to most things that can become a vice is moderation. You can even binge drink (I know that doesn't sound like moderation ) every once in awhile then without concerns about addiction or something like that. Of course you have to watch out for certain things then too, most importantly not getting into a coma (never happened to me) and know how to deal with a hangover.
Trust me, there is absolutely nothing you can do to help an alcoholic until they are ready to stop drinking. Don't help them with the consequences of their drinking, then you are just enabling.
I like to have a couple beers after a long day at work. I used to get seriously drunk all the time, but now I don't particularly enjoy more than a relaxing buzz and I only get drunk occasionally by accident.
LOL. But the cause is often years before someone even started drinking. IMO anyway. OK. I've seen the repeat circle. Depression/similar - alcohol abuse - medically supervised withdrawal - depression - clinical drug ttreatment side affects - says they're cured - then think "everyone else drinks, controlled drink will be ok" - depression/anxiety/whatever creeps back - alco abuse is back - rinse and repeat (or something even worse). I just think "how do I get them to tackle the route cause of their pain" and break the cycle.
Vice means socially wicked behavior, so it doesn't matter if you're addicted or not. Granted some vices are more accepting than others, so it makes me wonder if the vices that aren't as wicked are vices at all.
I'm surprised how much alcohol is accepted. Nobody voices a fuck about how much I drink and I drink like a fish on a budget. Now weed, people get pretty fucked up about. LSD and people are clueless but mom always new when I dosed in high-school. I like power and pretty much anything with power. Drugs/alcohol have a power, some are not so desirable.
Yea, weed is illegal in many places, but that doesn't mean it isn't accepted by society. I think it's more accepted than drinking and smoking cigarettes.
Not very many places. I don't know why either, because cannabis users aren't at all a burden on society. It's not like a junk or another who steals and is a full time user.
Thanks for sharing. I've seen a lot of lives destroyed by alcoholism. My dad was an alcoholic, after he died (drunk driving accident) i watched his brother and his close circle of friends all die from alcoholism over the years in various ways. So it is really nice to see someone get the help they need. I think hitting the absolute rock bottom helps in a weird way. Functional alcoholics sometimes dont recognize it as a problem until theyre older and their health starts catching up with them.
You're welcome. Sorry about your dad, I think I may know kind of how you feel. My dad was an alcoholic too, he never did manage to get sober. He took his own life about 4 years ago. I remember thinking the day he died that I'd be drunk again before the day was over. Thankfully I have a great family to lean on for support.
Cannabis users keep the pizza delivery industry in business. I used to drink quite heavily every day, now I just have one drink in the evening after work usually. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NjVfc8-Y7sQ
I don’t know why but the title of this thread reminds me of an episode of Opie & Anthony where guest Michio Kaku says “My Friends Like To work on Next Generation Hydrogen bombs” and Opie responds by saying “My Friends like to Drink” Hotwater
