Assimilation is basically the belief that once immigrants get to the 2nd and 3rd generation, they are going to give more of a crap about their iphones, McDonalds, Shopping Malls etc...than any kooky parts of their religion or culture from back home...especially any kooky parts that are harmful to others
No, I truly believe that most people, except the loons, just mean respect the law and order of the land. No on who matters cares whos a christian..just, can you get along in the society your in.
Where in PA do you visit? Its kinda big state w/ all kinds of people. Im in south central-not too far from dc,philly & bmore. Also not too far from the poconos (nice mountains to any who dont know)..hr or two to all & a quick three hrs to the ocean.
Pittsburgh is nice. Has those cobblestone streets. I havent been there in many years but had much fun in Pittsburgh. The other three are all close by to me & I pretty much live in the middle of them all. If you come back this way, let me know. I know lots of fun stuff to do in all those places.

Different classes and types, assimilate at different time-frames. High class assimilate easier and faster because they are not freighted down with lower class pretensions. and for some, assimilation is a tough road due to cultural barriers. The rate of assimilation is related to participation in commerce. and assimilation works in both directions as the culture adopts evolving norms and ways. Radicals call this: "Cultural Appropriation" Who is really worried about people speaking English in America, when people speak English all over the world? The triumph of worldwide English is a stunning phenomenon. The whole planet is assimilating together.
"assimilation" as a means and peaceful cohabitation as an end. when is one assimilated enough? when the end is achieved. it isn't more complicated than that
