I'm concerned about the increasing violence between Trump protesters and supporters, such as happened in San Jose. This is not the way to dissuade people from voting for him.

I hate to say it but I hope Cleveland has hired enough riot police for the convention!

Is Brazil still under military rule? They have free speech. Lots of places do. But people don't constantly act ungrateful and refuse to put things in perspective there. They'll say "every country has its problems and challenges" or "look at Iraq." Taken to an extreme it's denial, but Americans go to the other extreme or cynicism and nihilism.

There are way too many movements here. There's the raw vegan movement, the Voluntary Human Extinction Movement (VHEMT)...when will people be satisfied to live here?

What are people comparing America to when they say America specifically is racist, sexist, and homophobic? The Garden of Eden?

  3. I think just because America is recognized as the leader of the free world it is held to an especially high standard. We are supposed to represent how other nations should be, and other nations and a good number of US citizens see us as hypocrites in that regard. We criticize the US because we want it to fulfill its ambitions. Though maybe everyone should just take pride in the US and we would all be unified with our pride for our country and what it's supposed to represent. But when the government is controlled by an oligarchy that seems to have no clear sense of right vs. wrong, that's a little hard to do.

We can't deny that relationships between whites and blacks, men and women, gays and straights could use a lot of work here. Not to mention the absolutely childish relationship between our average citizens, Democrats and Republicans. There are countries less than half our size who are doing a better job of representing what a nation should be than we are. It's pathetic.

I don't hate America as an institution. Its founding principals are very good, and what it essentially represents is very good. We all know what it's supposed to be, ideally, but we certainly aren't there. And it's like we've given up on the dream in favor of immediate self-gratification and the entertainment of in-fighting. We barely acknowledge at all that we all share the communal goal of doing the right thing, that our intentions are good, regardless of how smart or stupid our beliefs may be. Instead we all judge and condemn each other and fight over the reigns while the horses gallop off into oblivion.

Lol what in the world does the raw vegan movement have to do with any of this?

I don't think they're comparing America to anything. It isn't really a contest, or it shouldn't be.
Yes I feel lucky I live in America instead of Iraq. How does that equate to America being perfect? How can we fix any problems here if we are afraid to address them?

Oh only 6%, my bad [IMG]

I’m sure your confidence lies in the fact that no prominent Americans owned slaves like the great George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, Andrew Jackson, and other leaders of that ilk and character – impossible, inconceivable to think the founding fathers would ever besmirch their names and titles by owning another human being or treating them as less than a man or woman [IMG]

    Please accept my humble apology

WASHINGTON — Donald Trump has paid men on his campaign staff one-third more than women, while Hillary Clinton has compensated men and women equally, according to a Globe analysis of payroll data for both campaigns.

The women who work for Trump — who account for about 28 percent of his total staff — made an average of about $4,500 in April, according to the Globe analysis. The men made nearly $6,100, or about 35 percent more. The disparity is slightly greater than the gender pay gap nationally.

Of the 15 highest-paid employees for that month, only two were women.

For most political candidates, this would have been a devastating week. Not only is Trump going to trial for fraud, but he called out the judge for being of Hispanic ancestry, strongly implying that no such person can act in a professional manner. This comes just four years after the Republican Party concluded that they were never going to win again on a national level until they improved their relationship with Hispanic Americans.

But this incident didn't magically transform Trump into Hillary Clinton, so his core supporters don't care. The ABH crowd (anybody but Hillary) is so blinded by hate that they can't see anything else.

Let's not get started on the Brazilian elite, especially not in Bahia, or the House of Saud. Again, their citizens are proud of their countries.

The male employees are most likely clocking more hours of work time. It's probably the same way at Trump's campaign, as well as just about every other workplace in the country.

But that won't stop the left from perpetuating the wage gap lie over and over again.

I always thought it was overstated. If I could get women to do the exact same work for less, I'd never hire any men. I would have no incentive, except that men get along better than women.

Not trying to be challenging, just curious.

Exactly, as would just about every employer. Plus there's already a slew of anti- discrimination laws that prohibit paying certain people less than others. And just think of the publicity nightmare the organization would face if they were caught paying men more than women on purpose.

I never understood where this idea comes from that women are paid less money. If women MAKE less money than men, the only reason is because they work less.

Also less experience, and breaks in their work history for having children. And they are often less ambitious because of family priorities. That's their choice; not something for their employers to fix.

People in my office are paid according to a formula that is based partly on commission. The women's paychecks are smaller on average, because the mothers work fewer hours per week, and the salary portions are slightly smaller because they have fewer years of work experience. If I forced everything to be equal, that would be extremely unfair to the men.

My boyfriend works in a male dominated field and he gets a lot of shit when he calls in if our son is sick. So I have to do it most of the time.

So maybe the conversation shouldn't be about equal pay but about equal rights for both genders in regards to family leave.
