This has surely been discussed in previous threads, but has anyone done the glastonbury thing barefoot? I went in 2005 when there were torrential downpours so the whole place was a mudbath i saw loads of people wading through the mud shoeless, both girls and guys, so it felt quite natural to copy! I only had the courage to do this when Id broken away from my friends though. Only once did I start walking barefoot down to the main stage with two female friends but one of them protested loudly that id hurt myself and reminded me of what i may be stepping in! The other girl was my girlfriend at the time and already knew about my secret, so she just carried on walking with an all-knowing smile. Any similar experiences?
I had a barefoot hike around Glastonbury in '03 with the UK bf hikers, now sadly defunct. We did not actually do the festival, though.
barefoot's always the best way for festivals irrespective of the weather and it keeps the costs down for sure as the money grabbing bastards charge at least 3 or 4 times for wellies than they cost in the shops. I went to Glasotonbury in 1998 wearing flip-flops when there was also torrentail rain and I soon discarded them as walking around barefoot was a lot easier although that didn't stop me falling arse over tit in the mud! Just as well I didn't know I was pregnant at the time but luckily I came to no harm and gave birth to a healthy girl in February the following year. Talking of barefoot and for that matter family friendly festivals you can't really top WOMAD. Barefooting is everywhere and I take my daughters each year without a single pair of flip-flops between us.
I don't go to Festivals in this country. Too big. Too impersonal. I've been going to the wonderful Oyafestival in Oslo, Norway since 2003. I never even bring any footwear with me. Completely barefoot, rain or shine. Not the slightest problem anywhere. Airport, flights, bars, restaurants, hotels and certainly not at the festival itself. In fact, on a couple of occasions, I've been searched going in by members of festival staff who were barefoot themselves !
Never done a festival, but would love to. Glasto always looks good on tv, albeit pretty commercialised and mainstream compared to festivals back in the day. Plus at least from the tv coverage wellies appear to be de rigeur. Still think I'd be in my element though. At the risk of going completely off topic, what were peoples' fave acts from Glasto? I was completely captivated on tv by Squeeze, ELO, and PJ Harvey (plus a glimpse of an amazing acoustic set by Cyndi Lauper of all people). Did anyone on here go?
