Agreed. Knowing that you've no footwear to fall back on adds that extra bit of excitement. Even better if you can do the trip by public transport so you've no space of your own to retreat into. Went to a Promenade Concert at the Albert Hall a couple of evenings ago. Tube and bus and no footwear with me. No problems at all. As usual I was the only one.
The last few days have been quite hot here. Lovely to feel the hot pavement on my bare soles. Even hot black tarmac didn't cause me any problems -no blisters. No problems at all. Encouraging comments from passers by wishing they had the nerve to go barefoot.I just say to them if I can do it so can you - it's easy take your shoes off and walk.Don't worry what people think or say.you are your own person.
Yes it's fantastic that we've got some summer at last. Good too that you've had encouraging comments. Yes why do people make such a big deal out of it instead of just going for it. Lucky me I've just enjoyed a week off work, and haven't touched shoes in that time. I'm pleasantly surprised you got into a Prom concert (how lovely, what was it out of interest?). I'd have taken footwear with me just in case of being refused entry.
It was Poulenc's Stabat Mater last Wednesday. In the past I've usually taken footwear in the backpack but since I've never had any problem I just decided to go for it. The website says there is definitely no dress code. I'm not sure what would happen if one turned up in a mankini but I'm a bit too old to make the experiment! Today I've been out and about in Spitalfields Market,. Brick Lane and Camden. Again total indifference from everyone but no fellow barefooters. Things aren't what they used to be. This is a reply to charlie35' s post. I don't seem to be able to use the "Quote" facility to make this clear. is anyone else having this problem?
Oh how lovely! (I'm watching the Tippett on tv at the mo, but struggling a bit if I'm honest). You're right, things ain't what they used to be. (There used to be trams, not very quick, gotcha from place to place.....etc lol). In the past I used to mark the start of summer by counting the number of fellow barefooters I'd see. Not any more! No, I don't seem to be able to use "quote" either.
Thunderstorm today, so I've been barefoot out of necessity while running some errands. Streets were running with rain water earlier today and I really don't want my sneakers to absorb that shit, so I didn't bring them at all. I took care of the errands and bought some candy from a store on the way home. No complaints from anyone. The only remark given to me so far has been from what I'm estimating to be a 6-year old kid, who was all like "That man is barefoot!" to her parents, when she saw my feet. Since 6-year olds cannot be expected to know any better, I promptly ignored the kid. Been contending with puddles, wet tarmac and medium-to-large pieces of gravel today.
In reply to I'minmyunderwear I'm using a computer. Is that likely to make a difference to "quote" working?
Hottest day we've had for a while today, couldn't wait to finish work at 2pm and go barefoot. It's like torture having to wear shoes on a day like this.
Glad to be back in nightstand email dry barefoot weather of calgary! Gonna be 30 degrees c here this weekend.
