idk, that's like saying there is no such thing as a unicorn because neither you nor anyone else on the planet have seen one. You believe there are no unicorns because reasoning, the same reasoning as no proof for an afterlife vs no proof there is no afterlife. What I don't understand is how true = false, yet doesn't break any rules of logic.
i think that's the difference between belief and fact. fact is objective truth, whether it can be proven or not. belief is what is true in your mind, but outside of maybe some quantum physics stuff, what is true in your mind is not necessarily what is true in reality. belief can break all kinds of rules of logic. it's harder to believe illogical things if you understand logic, but even then it does sometimes happen.
Landed in Africa. Our new place is awesome - great view of the Indian ocean. Company is taking us out on safari over the weekend.
Obviously. People who don't believe often don't understand how others believe in indefinitive stuff. If there's a definitive answer to it, like to verify if it is a real thing or not, it is not believing anymore indeed. Some believers take their beliefs to an illlogical level when they try to break it to others that they believe so strong that they know it is real/the absolute truth. Ok, good for you but really, if you confront others with it as if it is the truth the endless bickering can start
In New Bedford, Massachusetts, the setting of Herman Melville's story of the Great White Whale, with its rich history as a center for whaling and ship building, a controversy is brewing over Cinderella Seagull, a work of art currently on display at the city’s seaport art walk. An online petition was started by residents to have it removed saying it reflects poorly on the city hotwater
That seagull is kind of cool......I like the colors...not so much the breasts on it....but I think it is a little too avante garde for the traditional town, is all. It may belong in another setting, not as traditional.
You're right it’s the breasts that most people don’t like, but to suggest it reflects poorly on the city is nonsense, New Bedford isn’t the great center for ship building and whaling it once was which inspired stories and legends like Moby Dick, the city is plagued with an opioid crisis which one city councilor said “They’re overdosing at home, they’re overdosing in the streets, they’re overdosing in downtown, they’re overdosing in cars” oh my God! Hotwater
I would agree with you. I did not say it reflects poorly on the city....but the way you decribed the city sounded kind of traditional, so what do you expect from people anyway? That was my train of thought,.
I know you didn’t say it reflected poorly on the city, the residents did. Cinderella Seagull is on loan and will only be on display until October, so I don’t know why they’re complaining other than using it as a distraction from the current opioid crisis. Hotwater
i think i need to work on this old keyboard, its older than me. The right (or maybe the left, can't remember now) shift key used to stick and I fixed that. The return key stick a bit too, i need to take it off and clean it, maybe sand down any rough places that might make it stick. I don't know if putting the key cap in the dishwasher might help, idk, its not a huge deal but sometimes leads to me repeating myself, and can see certain cases where if it got stick could cause undesirable behavior. This is a good keyboard though: Model F AT, the DIN connector is the same as the smaller 5 pin mini-DIN for the PS/2 keyboard port on my computer, at least electrically, the signals are identical so no need for a USB adapter, which means less latency, as the keyboard port is interrupt driven while USB keyboards rely on polling. Anyway yea, it's not all the annoying, if i ever get sick of the return key sticking or other keyboard problems though I guess I'll have to take the key off and fix it
So they are overdosing on opiod drugs because of a seagull with breasts? I can fully understand that...
Have you seen Cinderella seagull, Hotwater, and what do you think of it? I think it is ridiculous that anyone would complain for the short amount of time it is going to be there, and even if it were to be there long term.....so what....but that is some people for you.
Not but I will be driving down to Fall River soon (Lizzie Borden’s old stomping grounds) which is close to New Bedford so I might just take a peek
No I wasn’t really interested in the circumstances surrounding the arrest only her parting remarks to the newspaper reporter “If I had been naked I would have intervened as well” - gulp! Hotwater
