It's not as bad as you think. The year is around 1000 B.C., so you can order all them to keep quiet. ;)

forget handling being married to 700 women... 700 wives means you spent two years of your life having elaborate wedding ceremonies that are enjoyable only for the the bride of the day. assuming you live to be 80, you spent 2.5% of your entire life doing those shitty ceremonies.

there is a book, i'll have to see if i can find it, where history grad students did this for their theses, it was about the social implications of the technology for doing so, as a great deal of really good science fiction generally is.
the protagonist spends the week inside the head of elizabeth the first when she's dying, experiences her death and lives to tell of it. then goes back and saying more would be spoilers.

i didn't think i could find it so quickly. its called pillars of salt, by someone who called herself barbara paul. apparently first published in 1978.

I'm sure as king Salomon the ceremonies are optional. Except maybe for the most important wife. So seems bearable. But if i wanted to have fun in a harem (not the worst way to spend a day in history :p) being king Solomon wouldn't be my first idea.

unless you're looking to learn how to manipulate political power, i can practically guarantee, if you pick anyone the average person has ever heard of, you'd be dissapointed by most of the rest of it.
then again maybe that's just me.

i'd love to see minoen crete at its hight too. no idea who's head it would be safe to do so from the inside of.
more for the architecture then the high fashion though.

maybe p. josiphus agricola. or a visit to plato's head to see if socratis was a real person or a character he made up.
or that guy he supposedly met who had supposedly been to 'atlantis'.

sudartha guitama and amaritsu are also possibilities.
any of the kitsune might be ok. tenuki aren't quite my style though.

nepolese monarchs or tibetan lamas prior to the 1940s.

or pretty much anyone in the wastern hemispher prior to 1450.
