How would you know what kind of teeth most people on HF have? I live in America and have in the last 50 years met people with teeth. The basic problem I recognized is that Americans think there are only two countries on this earth, Overhere and Overthere.
Well, the Whites injected Blacks and Browns with Syphilis and other diseases without the colored folk's consent. In the Guatemala Syphilis Human Experiment that ran from 1946 to 1948 even mental health patients were injected by the White Americans. The Tuskegee Alabama case was similar, Black men were injected with Syphilis without their knowledge or consent and were let out into the streets so the Whites could study how the disease spread through the Black population. The United States government did not inject Syphilis into unsuspecting Whites. Moreover, what RJHangorver said about the contaminated blankets was true. The blankets were taken off Whites who had died of diseases like small pox, or diptheria, and sent to the Indians. And thousands died. In 2003 through 2005, thousands of Iraqis were torturer by the Whites in Abu Ghraib Prison and other prisons. The victims of this White American torture had very brown skin, pure Muslim semites.
Must have...I didn't know if you were making a veiled remark about meth smokers or old folks, or guys who had worked as pugalists.
Exactly. Also, I don't understand comparing atrocities. What was done to the slaves was evil. What was done to Native Americans was evil. I believe it's meaningless to say one was worse than the other. Let's leave these problems in the past and worry about the evil taking place today.
...can't we all just get along? I mean really, what difference does most of this make now? We should help the surviving Natives, they are after all Americans too. Native American lives matter? That should be the next slogan. What's done is done. We learn from our past and try to make things better for our children. My daughter would say that too. I have Cherokee heritage, three generations back. We had native Indians documented in my area as late as 1890, if not later. My dad showed me where his grandfather told him that the last Indian settlement was here in the area, as well as the big rock that marks their graveyard. We didn't have trouble with them, so I've heard. This group weren't Cherokee, that was from Mom's side. This tribe was one of three small, lesser known local tribes. I think it's time America bands together again. Our last eight years have brought us more racial tension than we had since I was a kid,(60s)
Sometimes, some Native Americans were xenophobic. Some tribes such as the Comanche were murderous to other tribes such as the Apache, and to the Mexicans. Xenophobia, plain and simple, just as much of the world is today, including Europe. Tribalism has an ugly side, and the USA is in ways the least tribal of nations. Too many friends born in other countries have told me so, so I believe this to be true.
You hit some good points. In the most basic terms, if you can't defend your plot of the earth, it will be taken from you. This is probably as old as humanity. What's relatively new is that the "bill" for this and issues like slavery, which has been practiced by every race of human being and again, probably since the dawn of humanity, that bill falls squarely on the white people and lately narrowed down to those horrible white people in America. It's sort of like the newest major nation was left holding the bag for most of humanities sins. The fact that people are griping about past events that can't be changed is something we'll have till the end of humanity. But the idea that innocent people today should be "punished" for the deeds of long-dead assholes, is preposterous on its face. The assholes in our history do not represent regular people then any more than the assholes of today do. Aside from greed, the very effective squeezing of the government for cash and property, what's the upside to the societal effects of this?
Some people still believe in collective guilt, as in the Biblical sense. Methinks THAT concept was born of tribalism, and should fade away with much of tribalism.
The USA is a paradox. It has been among the more racist societies, yet is the least racist. I think a poll of immigrants would reveal many amused by the idea that America is presently highly racist. Another notion of mine: tribalism is a form of incest. America is about young people leaving the nest of their home country and individuating.
