According to local officials the owner needed a permit for last night’s concert, and with an ongoing investigation it would not have been approved

As of this morning, 25 bodies had been recovered.
It's expected that people will be found in clusters.

Ghost Ship wasn't the worst condition live-work coop in the neighborhood by a long shot.

Grow rooms are a few blocks away.

It's very common for Burners to be in these setups.
So, too, hip hop groups.
These kids are, in a way, my community.
Locally, it's shock.

Expect discussions of gentrification, overcrowding, housing costs.

Quit bickering. I'm tired of getting reminded how many jerks are on these boards.

Latest on the fire..................

Criminal investigators join probe of Oakland fire as death toll rises to 33

OAKLAND, Calif. — Alameda County prosecutors have assigned criminal investigators to probe the fire at an Oakland warehouse that claimed at least 33 lives.

Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf announced the move Sunday as the grim search continued. As of 3 p.m., searchers had covered only about 35 percent of the burned building.

“The scope of this tragedy is tremendous,” Schaaf said.

Schaaf did not provide many details about a criminal probe, which would be handled by the office of District Attorney Nancy E. O’Malley. She said she was not authorized to announce a formal criminal investigation but said district attorney’s investigators are on the scene actively reviewing evidence.

Do we know how the fire started yet? Was it from a cigarette, or?

You’re right it was an amazing space but as PR pointed out it was a tinder box and a potential fire trap without proper fire
prevention protocols in place (like a sprinkler system) and an evacuation plan

Because fires have standards.

Though, the team had a moment of silence for victims. The warehouse is walking distance to the stadium. Not that many people walk in that area. One train stop away.

As for cause, not fully official, but possibly a refrigerator arced. (News conference comment)
