White people aren't exactly neglected, Shaman. In fact they should be included! But that's not to say we don't need safe spaces for black people. Is that what you were saying?

How is creating a space that says no whites allowed not racist?

When he said turning back the clock he was referencing the south and places that had signs saying no blacks allowed.

Of course, excluding white people is a way to "right historical wrongs" and the effort has no expiration date. Which is why white millennials are starting to resent being labeled as racists because of shit done by other generations. I grew up in the 60s, but today I'm an "old white man" so I am automatically assumed to be on easy street, in the KKK and of course a sexist.

Until people realize that hating people for just being white is also racist, what can possibly change? How can it if one side is allowed a free pass to hate while the others must stfu and take it. Any effort to reach parity is shouted down with cute little terms like "whitesplaining" which is racist, or "white privilege" which is also racist.

That wasn't just "the south". Too many folks in the north lay claim to moral high ground they don't actually have.

No, you are right. :). is true it was not just the south, many places did it, but I believe it was more widely accepted by people in the south? Kkk had and I said had a stronger foothold in the south or maybe just more vocal? I don't know, I was not alive.

I said and meaning in addition to. not that it was only there. I remember Sammy Davis junior and the brat pack talking about how they alll stood up for him being treated equal to them at hotels, etc...

Also keep in mind that most of the USA is south of me. Lol

It isn't racist. It acknowledges that there exists a racism toward blacks. It acknowledges that there is a prejudice toward blacks. (more than I can say for some of our members)
When you feel you're the one being discriminated against, that's when you should have a safe space too. Have you ever felt outnumbered as a white person? Perhaps in jail at some point or something like that. In that situation, a safe space for you is totally appropriate, imo. :)

A lot of that is owed to the media of the time. The region labeled as "the south" has always been an easy target, but even when the KKK was at their peak most white southerners wanted nothing to do with them. They, like many gangs, preyed primarily on the people closest to them. It only made the news when they went after non-whites, but extorting from small white communities was how they stayed in business for decades. They also lynched, mained and ruined any white people who they saw as a threat. But since most of those were southerners, nobody cared.

A good part of what America thinks of "the south" is the product of old movies, especially when they attempt to paint the entire population with the same brush. While I'm not a southerner, I live in Atlanta and have since the late 90s. Most of the crap I believed about the south never came to pass. The only klansmen I have seen have been a few kooks in costumes posing for news cameras. Which is why this last presidential campaign was so weird. It was as of the KKK was having a rebirth. But it wasn't. The few you see them collect for a protest is all of them. It was the media and press that built them up artificially in a feeble effort to tie them to Trump.

What is really amazing is how many people who otherwise seem intelligent, are STILL trying to push the Trump/KKK connection.

Come to Atlanta. Or visit Memphis, Detroit, Montgomery, Gary, Baltimore or just about any other city that has had black leadership for decades. Hatred for white people is "fashionable". It's the "good" kind of hate.

I have felt outnumbered as a white person yes, but I didn't really pay attention to it. I was a minority at my high school, everyone was. My sister was called a white bitch while walking down the hall ther, later that day she say me talking to a guy in my math class and called me over, told me what happened,... I said come over here with me. I said did you call my sister a white bitch, he said... oh sorry, I didn't know she was your sister.

In college ... the main people I hung out with were by ethnicity 1 Spanish/Philippine girl, 1 Asian guy, 1 black guy 1 Spanish guy and 1 white guy. I lived in an area that had a large Vietnamese population. I walked into a pool hall there and everyone stopped playing and got quiet. I was refused service. There was a thing here called caravan Canada, Different pavilions for different countries. I hung out with this group a lot. One day we all went to a pavilion that was for New Zealand and the black guy, Spanish/phil, Asian guy and Spanish guy started talking about how this was the first time they felt they were standing out in a crowd. i feel like I stand out in a lot of places but I don't let that stop me.

And honestly the hate that BLM Toronto is bringing to the streets here is very hostile.

It doesn't matter, Yes I know it exists and it doesn't matter anymore, things get twisted online sometimes and things are read incorrectly or not expressed properly. I just don't feel the need to keep something that went so wrong.

As well you shouldn't, hate is hate. But somehow hating people for being white is in vogue. Especially when one can blame the entire race for things like The Crusades, The KKK, Jim Crow (a democrat btw) and of course slavery (even though all races have done it and in the US it was only the wealthy elite, of all races).

Also I am sorry if you did not want examples, just as a person who looks visibly white I feel as if I have to prove that I felt this way and why. Same with experiencing racism. Like just saying yes I know how it feels is not enough, or yes I feel that way. And no never in jail. :). But when in there cant you return to your cell?

I'm against the whole notion of safe spaces. Safe spaces on college campuses are barricades from people with a differing opinion or a differing race. I think we should have dangerous spaces where we can have all our ideas and beliefs challenged and discussed. A place where cultures and ideas can integrate and learn from each other.

wonderful Ontario jails use segregation and solitary to house mentally ill inmates on a regular basis.....

if you have zero knowledge about being in jail you are a blessed white person no doubt.....but far away from being in a position to comment on jails and being incarcerated...

but of course my knowledge only xtends to the ferry dock of the island.....haha

Jail sucks in the US. Except in small towns it's usually cold. The food sucks, they only have basic cable and of course everyone treats you like you're guilty, even if you're awaiting arraignment. I found that avoiding cops and driving like a nun keeps me off their radar for the most part. Any encounter you have with a cop is likely to cost you money.

My last ticket was in Florida a couple of years ago. I had just returned from North Africa and was driving back to Atlanta from Orlando and hauling ass. I was about 10 miles from the Georgia border when I glanced to the right to see a clearing full of state troopers mobilizing fast. I knew they had me cold, but I slowed down and cruised the right lane anyway. The trooper who pulled me over came to the passenger side where my luggage filled the seat and floor (it's a 2-seat red cop magnet). She said the aircraft above clocked me at 98 though I was well over 120 plenty of times, so I was ready to take my ticket.

I told her I just got back from North Africa and was so glad to be back in America that I wasn't going to argue, even a ticket was better than where I had been. I also had flags from Egypt and Tunisia laid out so they wouldn't get wrinkled too bad after being on the plane so long. When she came back she had written it for 89mph. So I guess it pays not to argue with cops when you KNOW you fooked up. I learned later that speeding in excess of 90 is reckless driving in Florida and I could have been arrested, car towed, calling wife for bail etc.

My ticket was over $300, I forget the exact amount. I'm back to driving like a nun and my wife has her sports car back, for good.

By the way, hitting a monkey is an amazingly bad idea, they don't tolerate it and will return the favor, usually with canines.
