Yeah, i was a bit out of line with that one. Although I dont like when people say America when they talk about the US, there are more countries in America than just the US

 

As a Canadian, when I read darksides comments I thought... wow you just ended off with a geography lesson and semantics. When I read America I never think of Canada in that. I never refer to myself as a North American. Anything you had to say prior just became insignificant When you get so petty. Every person I know in Canada and all across this continent think this way as well.

Is it ok to call them the states? I hope not because if you do the Baltic states might take issue with that.

I would like to know exactly what is "your kind" that America/Christians burned at the stake? Can you please supply some names and dates to this event?

I never said christians from the US, just christians in general.
But there is a long history of persecuted individuals who's only crime was denouncing the church and its teachings

People in my country seem to think we're the best thing that ever graced the planet, and it just kinda gets to me sometimes

 

If that's your main issue with present day christians it seems all peachy fine
If it would be other issues (like denying other people abortion, or wanting to get evolution theory out of their kids school) I would focus on those exact issues without getting into those practises of the past.
I noticed one thing about 'christians in general' though: they're quite diverse

And if i would live in those times and be open about my mindset they would probably have burned me twice But i really don't see what that has to do with the present day?

 

Again, what is your kind? You seem to seperately yourself from the rest of the people. What country are you in? There is nothing wrong with thinking you are great. This is not a crime. Do you believe you are great? Perhaps this is the problem. Do you have a problem with people taking pride in their country? Being happy they have what they have? Are you dissatisfied with your own life?

What have Christians done to you? I would also like names and dates as to these stake burning events. I was thinking maybe your people were in Salem and were witches in the past.

Haha I don't think I'm all that great, and I love my life!
I do however, have a problem with people thinking that their country is better, or its people are better than everyone else in the world just because they were (by chance) born there.

And Christians haven't done anything too personal to me, other than try to force their views on me.
And "my people" are the people who don't follow a particular belief system just because everyone around them does. And there are too man people to name, but just to give you one in particular, Michael Servetus. He was killed for being a "heretic", and that was his only crime to my knowledge. And if we are just talking punishment for being against Christian dogma, a man named Galileo Galilei comes to mind.

 

My big concern is a very strong and growing movement over here that is segregating. Kindergarten to grade 8 kids coming home crying because there are schools that have separated children based on skin colour and tell these children that they are bad because of things from the past. Taking the black children and building them up, while tearing down other children. And the schools stand by these teachings. actually teaching that babies are born racist. Fucked up shit.

 

To me culture is a beautiful thing and should be embraced, but I don't feel the same about nationalism.

 

Im sure this kind of hate is there but it seems it gets perceived a bit disproportionate. It gets abused and exaggerated as if whiteys are now the group that is obligated to sit in the back of the bus, get pulled over chronically for nothing, etc. If that attitude against blacks has been part of your culture and society for longer than a century its obviously not gonna be all gone in a few decades.

Yeah, that's fucked up to the point its almost unbelievable (it would be here). Are you certain its not an exception, an anomaly? I can imagine such a thing got quite some media attention. Esp. if done on a large scale!

It's being carried forth by a agenda, there is nothing organic about this kind of hatred. Hating people for just being white is racism. That is learned. Also, "whitey" is a bigoted ethnic slur. Is your bigotry the "good" kind too?
