Haha I recall when we got our first VHS player in the house. I borrowed lots of movies from a friend, Independence day was one of my absolute favs at that time. My parents were concerned when me and my brother start watching movies on the afternoon: 'you're not gonna make a habit out of this!'. 'No, of course not mom, it is just because we just got this thing!'. If you think you got your frist vhs player around the time Independence day got released?? Yeah, my parents never were the first ones with that stuff Before that I used to watch movies at said friend's place. I also watched Tour of Duty there, which I wasn't allowed to view at home Did re-enact the episodes around my parents place though ('Hospik!! Hospik!!) :cheers2:
We still make fun of one of my friends who used to be so frantic on playing with a specific toy gun that he would go home if he didn't got it. 'I want THAT gun!'. 'No, it's not your gun. You can't always have the coolest one'. 'Ok then I'll go'. 'Ok, bye!' Did not happen just once Ah the memories..
I miss those vhs rental stores. I miss those times when I used to go to a library every single time I needed to prepare smth for school. I miss sending letters and postcards via regular mail. I miss compact cassettes and compacts disks. And my CD player. And using floppy disks. Many things. Can't recall it all.
Did Red alert fit on one floppy disk? I recall having a game that required a bunch of them to install or play. They sucked ass!!
yeah they weren't capable of holding much memory... and couldn't serve for a long time... but I miss it.
I played the first and second Age of empires as well, even got a cable for it so I could play with a friend on a network with 2 PC's. I think that was some years later though, and came on cd-rom happily. When I played Red alert there just wasn't much else (in my recollection at least), and there certainly wasn't much better. I don't miss it but enjoyed it at the time. Same with the first Age of empires. About Age of empires: That converting trick enemy priests could do was frustrating
VHS was great but it has simply served its purpose. It was great at the time, it's not really great compared to certain comparable stuff these days. - Captain Obvious
I was mostly in AoE2 I was always the Teutons or the Vikings. I remember this one time I beat a friend. It's too long to post but it was such a thrilling good online win. he was so much better than me too, but I got him good. Basically we played regicide and he kicking ass all game against me and a computer AI. He hid his king at the bottom left corner with a whole forest of trees as a boundary and fortification after fortification. I was never going to win and so I let him go and battle the computer opponent, and when he'd beaten him I sent all my siege onagers down to the forest and bulldozed down the forests with the catapults to get to his king. He was dumbfounded that I'd beaten him. He just didn't anticipate me smashing through the forest. And I didn't even know I'd won but remember that flute/horn after a match? It just did that and "you are victorious" and then I watched the reply. He was so upset lol. Outsmarted and outwitted. Just like when I beat some tool at chess from another forum, but that's another story.
Why have many of them?? Did you have an illegal movie copying business!? Only now that you mentioned it again! But yes, I recall now Back in the 90's I was still able to get fooled with the remark from a new chess player 'Ok, I wanna play a game of chess with you as well, but I'm not that good'. Started casually playing and got beaten horribly This was usually at the coffeeshop, where I spend more hours the further the 90's progressed. You could still chill and smoke and buy at the coffeeshops here then at age 16 Now minimum age is 18. Doesn't bother me in the slightest these days
Nope Nothing As Dramatic As That.......Just Kept Them All Since The First One I Ever Bought Which Was Mono With A Corded Remote....To The Latest Which Plays And Records Both VHS...CD's...DVD's.. Cheers Glen.
I loved chess when I was growing up in the 90s. My parents would buy me the new and improved computer chess boards every Christmas. Actually I think they thought it would keep me out of trouble and it did as I remember my cousins would be up to no good and I be with them thinking man I just want to go home and play some chess lol. My first computer set had holes in all the squares, and the pieces would fit in them and record your moves. It was ugly though and I remember it broke rather quickly. I then got one I still have today and you pressed down the square to record your moves. I remember every square had 2 difficulty settings. 8x8= fuck knows. 64?? So let's say it had 128 difficult settings. I remember getting into the 50s. Every game I won I'd set it higher. Then on this goth forum there was a guy in Canada and he thought he was the best chess player ever. I didn't want to lose and not to him but I grudgingly accepted his invitation on yahoo chess. I even let him take a move back during the match and I still won. And boy lemme tell you, I made a big deal about it on the forum too lol and he never played me again. Recently I downloaded chess app on my phone and haven't played in a year. I played some guy in India and I won. i was happy with that. I often don't start well in chess, actually it's a flaw in my game I don't know what to actually do, but as the game progresses I can get myself right into it. I just don't panic when they capture some of my pieces. I know you only need a couple to claw out a victory.
For me, while there's many things of the 90s I miss, oftentimes for me it comes down me more to missing the ignorance and freedom of childhood, twas bliss. Before growing up and realizing how rough the world truly can be, and how different it was from whet you first imagined
