i guess the simple answer would be when it starts to have an adverse effect on their health. there could be a lot of different answers though, depending on the person's goals. whenever their weight starts to prevent them from doing what they want to do, that would fit the definition of too fat.

They don't enough local foods to be intaking the proper microorganisms to filter and inhibit the body.

Cheap commercial foods are doused in preservatives that kill both good and bad organisms. The food therefore isn't bad for you. But it also serves no benefits to your health in the long term, as it obviously still sustains hunger. By switching to a local foods diet, or in extreme cases fecal matter transplants can help restore the necessary microorganisms for your own health. Your body is not your own, it's a civilization for bacteria, and a working one will reflect on you

you probably can't. at least not specifically when the line is crossed. you can go to the doctor and he'll tell you that you need to lose weight, but i'm sure there's no universal formula to determine exactly what point that weight loss needs to begin at.

i think becoming overweight is probably something that generally creeps up on you anyway. you might notice you've put on a couple extra pounds, and then a couple more, and eventually you look at yourself and say "when did this happen?"

Although seemingly a witty statement at first: I don't know many people who happen to be pro hard drugs that are also condoning overdoses or think it is an ok consequence of legalizing hard drugs.

Same with unhealthy food. We have the right to indulge in them. But most people who acknowledge that right still are against overindulging in it to the point it is becoming plain deadly and/or seriously limiting a person in their possibilities.

About where the line between those things is: it remains to be vague and maybe even differs per person.

I think if we aren't talking about people struggling with some diseases, most of those who gains weight just don't feel beautiful anymore, maybe it's just about me though.

A paper that reviews possible causes of obesity that are alternative to 'the big two' (eating more, exercising less). The pdf is free.

Ten Putative Contributors to the Obesity Epidemic
Crit Rev Food Sci Nutr. 2009 Nov; 49(10): 868–913.
    doi: 10.1080/10408390903372599
    PMCID: PMC2932668
    NIHMSID: NIHMS225558

    https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2932668/

    exerpt from the abstract

Evidence for microorganisms, epigenetics, increasing maternal age, greater fecundity among people with higher adiposity, assortative mating, sleep debt, endocrine disruptors, pharmaceutical iatrogenesis, reduction in variability of ambient temperatures, and intrauterine and intergenerational effects, as contributing factors to the obesity epidemic are reviewed herein. While the evidence is strong for some contributors such as pharmaceutical-induced weight gain, it is still emerging for other reviewed factors.

    A whole bunch of excuses

I got to say, the older I get, I understand it less and less

I have an office job, so its not like during the day I am burning an excess bunch of calories

Eat a big meal when you are older and you feel it, your body has to work more to digest it

My tastes have changed, gone off everything sweet as sugar is also big work for the body

My age and above, I dont understand why some keep shoving excess food down their mouths, if for no other singular reason than to avoid feeling like crap all the time

Labeling them as excuses is not objective.

The paper mentions sleep debt as a contributing factor. This has a clinical basis. It's known from a clinical study on men that disrupted sleep patterns alter leptin levels and leptin sensitivity in a way that causes people to want to eat more than they normally would. This is consistent with the fact that leptin is a feedback signal from body fat that the brain senses to determine how much body fat is present and to adjust hunger accordingly to maintain a particular amount of fat. Disrupted leptin levels can cause a seemingly unexplained abnormal hunger. It also relates to modern industrial culture where sleep patterns of people are often disrupted as a result of working long stressful schedules or overnight shifts while trying to sleep during the day. Urban environments often have light and noise present all night which can confuse the brain and disrupt sleep patterns.

Obesity itself is known to increase the chances of sleep apnea. Sleep apnea disrupts sleep patterns which can disrupt leptin and hunger. Causes of obesity are known to be multiple and aren't as simple as they might seem on the surface.

the hungry brain is a reality check for fat shamers.
also it turns out, having been fat shamed as children makes them more likely to be unable to control their weight as adults.
there's also this, creative people are just plain too busy exercizing thier brains to have time to exercize their bodies.

Its just amount of calories you shove in your face minus what one burns.

It is that simple. Doesnt get more objective than that.

All those excuses get a voice, becuase its what many want to hear.

Still doesnt change the fact its amount of calories you stuff in your face minus calories one burns.

And those that can more easily keep their weight down have an easier time especially later on in life

Well, I've put on a few pounds ..and I'm doing my best to get it off...again!

A few of you know, I suffer with my chest, and sometimes end up in hospital, first thing they do, is turn on the steroids! I hate it! You have no idea!
See myself in photographs, yuk! But one thing I do, is push to loose it!

You don't know why people are fat! Unless you have put on weight suddenly! You don't know how hard it is to lose it!

Take a look in the mirror you perfect people ...look around you!

Life is not as it seems for every one!

    And, it's not easy!

Someone calls me! I say, at least I can lose the weight! What about that ugly gob! Of yours!

Some people are overweight because they have medical conditions, some caused by weight gain, others due to genetic/birth disorders. People dont eat healthy anymore or know what healthy food is or where food comes from. In my area they actually have to tell kids that milk comes from a cow and how cows make milk.. and it blew there mind. (They said from the grocery store.. which is where its sold..) Society has been dumbed down a lot, our food has been poisoned including our water sources. People just don't know what good food is even if you slapped them in the face with it, they certainly don't how to eat it (frankly I think this is in part do to our government and the big corporations who profit from our poor living decisions. By food industry and medical.) and if they try to eat healthy they are getting fed poison anyway. (Grocery Store Foods) Some people are lazy, some use food as a stress relieve due to life issues, and some just plain don't care.

    Agree! ^^^^^

People on low income are more likely to be over weight due to companies loading cheap foods with crap!

About time governments stepped in! Plus portion size! Do you really need to feel stuffed after a meal?

I don't like burgers, not the texture or taste, but on holidaying in other countries, I'm surprised that the big burger chains supply different size burgers in different countries! Why is that?

I don't think portion control will help. People will just buy more of something in smaller batches. People need to control there own intake, which is something corporations cannot do for them. The gov is part of the issue. They profit from our poor conditions and health. It's like everything else until the masses stop spending there money and rebel/speak out against the government and the decisions they are making nothing is going to change. ( the masses in the form of billions not a few hundred thousand.)

    Ehhh..

I don't think fat shaming helps anyone

But studies have linked exercise to increased cognitive function. If you're not physically active both your mind and body will be sluggish.

I am getting fat. My theory on why: I need something to do!

I think I munch more when I'm bored than any other time; including if I were stoned (incidentally I've quit on the medical edibles for the time being).

But despite understanding why, I continue to forage and graze, like so many cows. :) I've put on maybe 5 or 10 pounds that I could do without. We'll see if they stick! :)
