For understanding general health, correct eating and exercise, the internet can provide valuable help and guidance. However with more complex medical issues it is a highly dangerous place to seek advice. Following certain heart surgery, doctors prescribe large amounts of anticoagulant drugs to prevent blockage of the capillary blood vessels that feed blood to the heart muscles from the aorta. Failure to use them as prescribed will lead to sudden heart failure and certain death. Patients concerned about taking a cocktail of pills have looked to the internet for general advice on weening themselves off drugs and several people have died as a result. To some extent, I would blame the doctors for not explaining what the pills are doing and why taking them is so vital. Incorrect self diagnoses of a disease followed by self medication is also very dangerous. A simple mistake between words such as hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia could cause someone to take substances that would put their life at risk.
Yes, i agree. It is wise to get as many different thoughts on anything as possible. internet just provides one source....I always say always get a second opinion, if you can, on any medical issue....talk to as many well informed people, as you can....Don't just take the first thing you hear as gospel.....and use your own wise judgement. Tingling and numbness is less today in my face.......and i don't have any pain anywhere today...knock on wood....so I am thinking the herbs are finally kicking in. they are all natural remedies.....and I have been learning how to be less stressful Stress, they say, can kill, too.
Just got back online. Visited my 93 year old father (94 in Dec.) on Tuesday, then drove him back here for a visit. Took 5 hours for a 3 hour drive. We took all back roads over the mountains and the leaves were beautiful. Had the entire crew over for super last night, (pizza), my brother picked up my father to take him home this morning, and we have my 6 month old granddaughter all weekend. Worked on my lawnmower yesterday, had to order a new deck mandrel for one blade as I broke the other one off when I hit something. $25.00 complete, free shipping, due in about 7 to 10 days (Sears wanted $56.00 without the bearings, shaft, seals, grease fitting, nuts, and bolts).....lawn getting out of control and 1" of rain scheduled for tomorrow. Just repaired the 12 foot bird feeder pole that's outside the kitchen window after the black bear attack of two nights ago. Apparently he was up on the front porch then bent the pole to the ground, ravaged the bird feeders and tore the arms off the pole, then hit the back bird feeder before wandering away. Time to bring the feeders in each night. Catching up on the site to see what's new....
Went for a long run this morning, did some cleaning, now just relaxing with some coffee for a few hours before I have to work later. It's pretty chilly outside, though. I'm starting to get cold.
Herbs along with a relaxed lifestyle will help many conditions, particularly allergies. Here in the UK, today the vast majority of doctors fully accept this. It is only following cardiac or neuro-surgery that not varying from drugs prescribed by your consultant is so vital. Patients suffering serious diabetes also have to be careful that dietary experiments do not lead to hypoglycemia. Hopefully the trend towards doctors happily working alongside and respecting herbal remedies will continue to grow. Like everything in life, it is all about common sense. People who are so anti the conventional medical methods would be quite happy to allow doctors to do their work if their leg was severely injured in a road crash and would not go home and rip the stitches out the following day. However, once the wound had healed, herbal and other alternative treatments would be a lot better than becoming addicted to pain killers.
Lol, I used to think that way but I've come to look forward to it. Starts the day off in a nice way, with a sense of accomplishment and productivity. Also, wakes you up.
I need to start running again. I kind of hated it but it did a lot for my mental clarity, plus my legs looked great when I was a runner How far do you usually run, YFM?
I don't run because I'm afraid it will effect my knees when I'm older, and also I have sciatica, which is in your back, but I think running might be bad for that too. I burn 1,000 calories a day on the eliptical though. According to Myfitnesspal.com it's going to lose me about ten pounds by December. All things considered, I doubt I'll lose the weight though. I have a habit of breaking with my diet once it starts to work. Lol.
My standard is 5 miles roughly 3x per week, but today I did 10. Monday I did 8. I've been feeling it lately. Some days I feel like I could wander forever through the neighborhoods near my house, and some days it's a struggle. I used to run, but never really made it past a mile or two. I started it up again this past spring because I was going through a chaotic and extremely stressful time, and something about it just clicked and now I genuinely enjoy and look forward to it. It allows me to sort through my thoughts, be with myself, and simply feel present in the moment.
Yes, i agree, why can't Western and Eastern medicine come together and put their heads together for optimum health? I know to go to each and both..........Unfortuneatley, here in the US, Eastern medicine is poo pooed, for the most part, and insurance will not cover it here........and when I first discussed the herbal remedies to the doctor I have now, she kind of laughed at me, and I was very serious about being cured of crippling lyme's.......i should have looked for a new doctor then....and she is Asian, but so Americanized now......I guess..... A person interested in broadening their horizons in any field, would listen to other things and look into it, I would think........but most Western medical doctors here will laugh when you mention eastern medicine, unfortunealtey.......so i don't bother bringing it up anymore.......really.......
Holistic vet, that costs a fortune...cured my little Minxy cat of stomatitis with herbs and natural remedies, and she can eat now. I wish i had thought or known to go to her first before I let the other vets take out all of her teeth. The holistic vet told me one day Western medicine will catch up....She goes around the country talking to large crowds. I picked her brain as much as i could about many things while I could and saw her.....
I'm jealous...Lucky you! you have a little 6 year old grand daughter to wrap your arms around all weekend....Awwwwwhhhhhhh.......
This may interest you. It is being screened daily all over the UK. I personally think that as well as to the public, it is also intended to send a message to doctors who over prescribe medication. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zTbLai2GaQM
I will watch that. ...but I wanted to add something about Minxy cat. The thing that made me finally think to look for a holistic vet, was that even after all of her teeth had been taken, we were having to take her to the vet every 6 weeks for a shot that eventually would have destroyed her liver...they were not giving her long to live evaluations..............the shot would only last for 6 weeks......and then she would be in pain again...so i finally put my foot down and had to try something else....and voila...no more pain now for her and she eats every day for two years now....I think....at least almost 2 years now anyway. The vet who was giving her a shot every six weeks was amazed recently at how well Minxy's gums look now....She saw this vet a few weeks ago for constantly scratching at her ear. It was yeast in her ear.
