Is the celebration of Christmas and its origins same Thanksgiving. None of those were spoken of in the Bible so why should we have it in our lives now just man-made traditions bogging us down

gotta love the loopholes they put in there eh

my favourite one is the final one where you just repent before you die and all is forgiven..it kind of trumps all the earlier choices and BAM youre in the clear

I don’t think repenting on your deathbed is going to save anyone

So the fact that there are texts which say he told Jesus what was happening mean nothing to you? He was an enemy of Rome, it does not take one man to betray him. Rome had many spies, even though there was no NSA or internet they knew where important people were unless they hid in a cave. If you set foot in major cities they see.

They were hiding in caves because the early Christians were all pacifists so they wouldn’t survive for long getting beaten up every day and tossed to the lions.

They truly followed the teaching of Christ and his sermon on the mount where he insisted they should turn the other cheek.

I have kids. But would it matter? I told them for a very early age that Santa wasn’t real and that parents lie to their children about him. It gave me more credibility

But he did betray Him and felt so bad afterwards he hung himself

That's my point that story is not in many original texts. The whole idea of him being a "traitor" was invented during the Middle Ages just like the resurrection story. For centuries everyone said Jesus died the end.

Understandable choice in your case, as lacking credibility seems to be one of your chronical issues :p

December 25th is a few days after the winter solstice when the sun's overall movement back to the north becomes noticeable. In the pagan sense it can be construed as the seasonal return of the sun and life. It was honored long before the development of world religions which borrowed the rebirth idea and which sometimes scoff at pagan culture.

The date of Easter has multiple astronomical underpinnings which were recognized long before the development of world religions. The Council of Nicaea determined easter to be the first Sunday after the first full moon on or after the vernal equinox. That date also makes Easter different than the date of the Paschal full moon used by the Jewish faith

It's interesting that religions which often rely on supernatural explanations associate important events with those of the natural world which are considered to be pagan. The natural world seems to have an underlying importance to people and commonality in various religions.

I do feel sorry for kids who don't believe in Santa. Such a fun and magical time

So, in your religion's belief that Christ was hung by the neck vs. being nailed up by his hands and feet, it is okay that it was written that Thomas touched the nail holes?

I feel worse for the kids who don't get to believe in Santa.

Anyway, I know Santa isn't real, and I don't actually believe in him, but I still like to pretend I do. I might put out cookies and that sort of stuff...just to keep that magic alive.

If it was primarily done out of the kids interest and with the kid's mindset and feelings in mind it could be not so bad (although you're denying your kid a magical fantasy and time of the year every other kid gets to experience, and it doesn't seem to damage them when they get older and find out its not real).
But its because dad needs more credibility... :( (and God knows he does need that :p)
